Joey Barton with an absolute classic of the non-apology genre here 16:48 - Oct 28 with 1831 viewsIllinoisblue

“So if anybody was offended by that, I would like to apologise for that. I think the FA were right to write to me and remind me of that.”

Is it so hard to just say “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said it and won’t say it again” no need for the “if people were offended” qualifier.

Joey Barton, who has just apologised for making a crass statement about the Holocaust, is a stanch defender of Jeremy Corbyn, who currently remains outside of the Parliamentary Labour Party in the wake of the EHRC's investigation into Labour party antisemitism.

That's two threads in 20 minutes you've managed to steer towards an ex-leader of the Labour party who is currently outside the party structure. What's the goal here?

On a different note, I've replied to your post from the other day now that I've had time.

It’s his usual self-obsessed self-centred self-absorbed goal.
He tries to dress it up occasionally with a bit of tinsel around the goal posts, then reverts back to fac-tory settings.
He’ll be making wildly unfounded accusations about Mr Ham turning a blind eye to certain issues again soon.
Rinse & repeat.

In fairness, these aren't desperate times for Tory supporters, given that they've been in government for 11 years and counting. Meanwhile the Labour party has disowned the only leader to win a general election for them since 1974 (when they won a majority of 3).

I voted a sitting Tory MP out in 2019, with some enthusiasm, I hasten to add.

My reply was to somebody who said that Joey Barton would have a bright future in the conservative party. I simply pointed out that he was a staunch defender and supporter of Jeremy Corbyn and his Labour Party .

Re the other thread. It was about Corbyn's brother. Somebody said he was hanging out with right wing antisemites. I pointed out that Jezza has a similar history and his brother.

I'm pretty certain that if Jo Johnson was found to have made Islamophobic or racist comments, somebody would have brought Boris and his own Islamophobic and racist history into the conversation.

But I have to ask Stokie. WTF has happened to you? If I didn't know better I'd swear your account had been hacked bysomebody from the Islington set. You're even linking screen shots of other members posts from five months ago. That's not the SB who has been one of the least belligerent and combinative posters on here for many years. That's straight from the [redacted] playbook.

Anyway, whether you replied to my post on the other thread or not, I'm off to see Venom now with the wife and daughter. If I remember then I'll read it. If I think there is any benefit to the debate by replying, then I'll reply. If I don't then I won't.

But if I don't then promise me you won't go all "let's follow Paz around from thread to thread on me".

Barton may be a bit of a clown, but surely this thread didn't need to descend into politics?
The heavily qualified apology rarely comes over as more than "I'm apologising because I've been strongly advised to do so".

I don't think any of that is particularly fair but you are entitled to your opinion. I feel that your last two paragraphs are far more belligerent than anything I've posted since my return.

Why would you care that someone made that quip about Barton? In the end JC didn't need to be mentioned in either thread. I'm not convinced that the "someone would have done it about Johnson" argument is particularly sound either, once again, why would you care about that? Why not focus on Piers Corbyn who has been an utter disgrace for the last 2 years with regards to his covid and anti-vaccine views? JC is virtually an irrelevance now, why perpetuate threads and debates about him?

You're right, I am being a bit more assertive. Being the most patient poster around here usually ended up with me going round in circles (usually with the correct facts and evidence I might add) and then getting nowhere or simply being ignored. Evidence and debate is still the best way forward but sometimes a bit more force can also be helpful. In my absence I saw that much of what I posted with regards to covid had been ignored or forgotten by forum members with clear agendas and to be honest I was pretty annoyed. I didn't like a lot of what I saw whilst I was away to be honest.

I spent time replying to one such user who was pushing utter nonsense around covid about 3 days ago. It was a comprehensive reply citing relevant studies. He ignored it entirely (and has posted since) and will likely be back to posting the same misleading information and false equivalences over the next few days. That wears one down and perhaps a bit more force is needed when replying to such individuals.

With regards to the incident you are citing, that is a specific theme with that specific poster. One should not complain about something whilst doing the same thing to other people. Hopefully he's taken that message on board. I would also point out that you frequently cite other users historic posts.

With regards to my response to you on another thread, I simply let you know that I had taken the time to reply to your post properly after saying I couldn't the other day. Whether you read it or reply is up to you but it's hardly following you around the board, I was being courteous and letting you know. I would point out that you specifically asked me to reply to a post the other day which was blank, I didn't accuse you of chasing me around the board.

Enjoy the film.

I think it's important we see both sides on this.

One - the side of people who have morals

Two - the side that Joey Barton is probably that bloke what if he didn't have football would be sat in his own piss yelling at pidgeons on the highstreet. Can we blame a man for trying to cling so desperately onto his position of importance?

Poor bloke wouldn't even have a social media following if not for football - he's be a bitter middle age man trying to score points at the local branch of Mumsnet just to feel valid.

In short - f*** him.
