Really enjoyed that. 18:38 - Nov 13 with 1215 viewshomer_123

Oxfords use of the ball and movement off it, especially in the first 20 mins, really was excellent. Yet for all their good football we actually looked more threatening, hitting the post twice.

We weren't at our best today...our attacking three behind Bonne...just a few yards to far away from him too often. Burns was pretty much marked out the game and Celina wasteful with his passing..which was a shame as he could have really opened Oxford up at times.

I really like Edwards...Oxford were doubling up and yet still struggling to contain him. He does far more work defensively than Celina and yes, at the moment, his end product isn't quite there but he's so skilful and direct, I'd have him ahead of Celina on the left and drop Chaplin back in the middle.

We really controlled the second half well but just lacked a little quality in that last third which meant we had to settle for a point instead of three.

However...a good game to watch and even the sh*thousery was good to see as it meant Oxford were struggling to contain us and couldn't get their passing game going as we had stepped up our second half performance.

Same here. Really disappointed with Oxford second half. They killed the game but it's up to us to counter them. Defensively good today but an off day today from our flair players.

First half thought Oxford were the best team we’ve played this season, showing real quality and a phenomenal press, outstanding

Donacien was off his game (he improved second half), and that effected Burns

Then despite some early promise Edwards end product went…

Celina not on it

Second half we took control… but I felt we could have done more and been more threatening… Chaplin and Aluko looked far more effective

Yes oxfords sh!thousery was calculated and appalling… but we should have still done more

5 mins extra time was ridiculous

My main disappointment was that it was the big game, the big occasion, a few thousand extra blues… and we still fail to win! Hopefully Tuesday under lights against Rotherham

We;ve got some cracking players

But so far, so many of them fail to give us 8/10 performances consistently.
Fitness? quality?

PC said in the past the partnerships are important and it shows with us

As you say, Donaciean wasn't great, this effected Burns's game
Celina wasn't 100% this means Bonne isn't involved
Evans wasn't great, which meant Morsy didn't shine

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

My take is we'd have lost this game a month ago. So it feels like progress. Second half Oxford didn't want to play and it wasn't a great watch.

Have you borrowed my eyes? I've never read a match summary with which I'm in such total agreement. You must be as daft as me!

I'd also add that I'd like us to be capable of controlling the game from just inside our own half, which really needs a back six who are all really comfortable on the ball. Without that we are forced to defend on the back foot a bit, and knock it back to the keeper too much.

We're consistently slow off the mark, maybe a coffee club just before the game, with no decaff, would wake them up. Watching from the SBR upper and with us usually "attacking" the SAR first half it's noticeable how often the early stages are played in our final third.

Yes it was still progress today

Oxford were excellent first half

And yet I never felt throughout the game they were going to score.. so our defence has massively progressed

Nailed it Homer. The sh*thousery is what our fans have been calling out for for years. You've got to be able to manage the game when you're under pressure if you want to get anywhere. I thoroughly enjoyed it - a top of the table clash with nothing between the two teams.

Like most teams , Oxford started well with their press but cant maintain it. That’s the pattern in most of our games I feel. As the games goes on, our superior fitness tells, and we take a hold of the game. Today Oxford bossed it for the first 20mins , not the first half. Thereafter Town took control. Luckily for them our creative midfield 3 had an off day, otherwise we’d have stuffed them .

Good post

I thought Oxford owned more than the first 20 mins… even that time we carved out the two best chances of the game

Funnily I thought that perhaps them dropping like flies was cramp from that intense press

But the key point was our attacking three midfield were just not sharp enough… there were probably 10 missed passes that could have opened up Oxford completely

Convinced the partnerships and consistency will come

Definitely a top of the table clash - As I said before the game, finish above Oxford and you’re in the play-offs
