Of course it was always going to be. It was more Madrid's stance that was amusing. Do they think they are Red Bull? :)

Wish they would do away with all this seeding nonsense. Put all the names in the hat and draw them out. If it ends up Liverpool vs Man City or Bayern vs PSG in the last 16, so what?! Yet another example where money is king.

I dunno about that, I think it's pretty fair for teams to get rewarded for winning their group. You still normally end up with some pretty big hitters meeting in the last 16 and it means the quarter finals should be where things get really spicy.

Agreed, separating the group winners & runners up into separate pots makes sense & it does provide an incentive for clubs to try to win their group.

I appreciate the point you are making, however I personally think they should simplify it. Top two from each group go through to the next phase (group winners earning significantly more money compared to the runner up as an incentive?!) and then it's a free for all in the last 16, regardless that you won the group or what country you are from. There's too many variables now which overcomplicates matters. If you are going to win the competition you are going to need to beat the better sides at some point. It's like UEFA are doing their utmost to keep the bigger sides apart by making sure they avoid each other as best they can until it reaches a saturated point and they can't adjust it anymore and they have to meet. I prefer this suggestion. I'd like to add to it, throw in that it doesn't matter what country you are from either you can be drawn against another side from your country. Therefore, Chelsea, because they finished runners up in their group could then play Liverpool, Manchester City or United in the Round of 16. Instead of trying to keep them apart.

It remains to be seen how successful this might turn out to be.
