You learn more from defeat than you do victory 17:17 - Jan 15 with 2104 viewswkj

Bolton seems to have the measure of us this season, that's for sure. I'm not necessarily trying to say that today was a positive, as it wasn't, but it does give McK the chance to see what he might need to do over the next two weeks.

Individual errors was the story of the day once more- then a failure to get motivated when on the back foot. Plenty of notes for McKenna to take into training as well as the transfer market if necessary.

That goes without saying. However, we can't win 'em all. Let's hope McK can evaluate those poor performances better than PC seemed to.

Hopefully we will bounce back quickly. McKenna seems like a detail man who’ll study what went wrong, rather than chuck out the same players, formations and tactics every game.

I think we need someone in on the left side for sure.

I agree. I like what Penney is capable of, but I hate how inconsistent he is. Inconsistency is costly for us, so we need better.

What I wouldn't give for a bit of Juliet Bravo coursing through the team today! But no, we got Tosh from The Bill instead.

We have learn't that sacking a manager makes no difference, in fact it actually makes matters worse as the new manager now has to relearn what the previous one already knew.

What is Penney capable of? Consistently our worst performing player, I don't remember him showing anything to suggest he's a more than a below average third division squad member. Maybe unfair to single him out today but I don't recall him ever having contributed anything of note.

That remains to be seen, but I would say KM getting a Back2Back victory muck quicker than Cook bodes well.

He's a bit like Gwion Edwards. He has had a few flashes of decent footy - but is no where what we need.

Defeat is disappointing, especially as it sounds like we just weren't really at it, but it also gives McKenna a chance to potentially freshen things up. After the Sunderland performance he kind of had to stick with that line up really and we then won two on the bounce and you don't want to be changing a winning side. Be interesting to see if we make some tweaks now. I get the impression McKenna wants to play more of a 3-4-3 and think we need to tweak the personnel slightly to get the best out of that system. We also need fewer of our players to go missing when the going gets tough, but that's been an issue for ages and won't be fixed overnight.

Lost 3
Drawn 2
Won 2.

The two wins were one against a very poor Gillingham, and the other one was scraping a 1-0 against Wycombe (where we were lucky to not draw).

1st January Paul Cook would have had his replacements lined up, a new central midfielder, a new left back and a new centre back.

Maybe lessons will be learn't from this, maybe not.

Why would a new manager relearn what the previous ubsuccessful manager knew? Surely the point of said new manager is to do things differently and avoid what's gone before.

You're reaching pretty hard here. The stats are Won 2, Lost 1 - claiming otherwise is manipulating the facts.

There's been some real tosh written after the match today but that beats even Makin's hot takes. Not easy to do either.

What are you on about?

McKenna's record is W2 D0 L1.

Cook's win percentage throughout his time here was 29.5%. The stats you quote (whatever they are meant to represent) are the same win percentage so about what might have been expected from Cook (but probably only 1 draw and 4 losses). McKenna (currently) has a 67% win percentage.

If your takeaway from today is that sacking the manager makes no difference, either you are trolling or you don't pay any attention.

6 points from 3 games under McKenna so far as well, which is an improvement on Cook's start here, his end here, and his record here overall. How telling that this particular poster has reappeared after McKenna's first loss but had very little to say after back to back wins in his first two games in charge.......

Said poster was very vocal leading up to Cooks departure and very pro Cook. Quiet since as you say Herbs.

Cook's dreadful record here is sometimes defended by it needing time for a new squad to gel. The solution you seem to think is that he would have been able to get another new squad in on 1 January (despite no club ever in the history of the game signing more than a couple of players early in a January window - instead business is left to the end when clubs get desperate and pay silly money).

And it is learnt not learn't.
