Mind you, I think if you were offered a ticket, I doubt you’d say ‘nah, I’d rather stay home and watch an old recording of Murder She Wrote’.
They’re really going the distance with this propaganda milarky. Saw a Russian mush who looked like Jabba the Hut’s love child being interviewed at lunchtime. It did look like many of the attendees, state employees largely who were instructed to attend, made sure their tickets were registered and went off to do something more interesting. | |

We really need the Russian people to wake up and see the real picture. Seems however, that a significant portion of them are swallowing all Putin has to offer Hook, line and sinker. No democratic tradition, no firmly established, independent press scrutiny. Russia has lurched from Communist dictatorship to quasi capitalist Fascist dictatorship and the west has fallen over itself to accommodate it because a) it wasn't old style communism and b) there was heaps of cash to be made. We have simply enabled Putin whilst knowing all along he was a power mad crook. The Russian people will make themselves European pariahs. |  |

Not sure that’s necessarily true, hard to gauge true opinion in the current political environment. There’s certainly a difference between the urban middle-class – internet savvy, foreign holidays and the like – and the rural poor reliant on TV news.
That latter help though is where much of the army comes from and where the bodies will be going back to. Given casualty rates are much higher than for the USSR Afghanistan in such a short time those losses will be keenly felt. Poor kids as cannon fodder for a dictator’s nostalgia. | |
