Players we should sign in the summer? 13:26 - Apr 26 with 2219 views | BonneNIL | Surely we should be taking a look at players like: Declan John, Welsh international Left back at Bolton, 26 George Johnston, also in Boltons backline, Scottish International, played in Holland Cole Stockton, 28 (number 9 for Morecambe) with 35 goals for them over the last 2 seasons Sean McConville, 33, one of the better midfielders in this division currently playing for Accrington Alfie May, something like 40 goals in three seasons at Cheltenham Barry Bannan, 32-year-old Scottish Internation with a heap of Championship experience currently at Wednesday Gavin Whyte, 26, Northern Ireland International midfielder currently at Oxford Matty Taylor, also at Oxford, is another striker with 40 odd over the last two seasons and at this level, but also in his 30s What realistic other signings could we make? We looked to the league above last season and I don't think it actually did us much favours.

Players we should sign in the summer? on 13:31 - Apr 26 with 2167 views | STYG | A lot of people seem unable to move on from what would have been the Evans shopping list. Certainly if the right player crops up then fine. Last summer, even with the investment, we took 5 out of contract players and experience in the likes of Aluko, as well as signings like Burgess from clubs like Accrington. Ultimately, with only a few needed this summer, probably 5-6 at most, I'd imagine we are very much looking a lot higher than this. Of course, if a Cheltenham, Forest Green player is the right fit then great. I'd love Brannigan from Oxford, who I think is going to cost £2m+ and have Championship clubs interested. Likewise, if there's a quality player for free out there then brilliant. But I'd imagine it's more a case of McKenna / Williams / Ashton identifying the exact players they want through data analysis and being back to go an get them, rather than the classic Evans (even Cook you could argue) strategy of taking who is out there and trying to make them fit.

`The biggest failing of the last window is not getting Walton and Morsy signed before the seasons started. We started the campaign without a keeper good enough for this and without a captain and that was insanity, whatever you may say about Chambers, we lost an established captain and waited until the season was well underway before bringing his replacement in. Whether that was Cook or Ashton's fault that remains to be seen, but I still maintain that had Cook had those two from the start we'd have not struggled half as much in those early games.

There is a massive difference now though, in that the starting eleven for the opener next season will likely be 5-9 players already at the club with maybe another 4-5 on the bench being here already. Morecambe was like a bunch of strangers thrown together and funnily enough we had a lot of issues that took a while to resolve. Hladky, Penney, Harper, Evans, Burns, Chaplin, Fraser, Piggott and Bonne all made their debuts, 8 of those 9 as starters. We now have a very good side that is largely settled, with potentially a new LWB, maybe CM and ST to potentially come in for August. A world of difference.

Agree, although I'd go one further to say that Wilson should have been offered another deal and captained the side at the start of the season. We started the season without Burgess or Edmundson too, and were a total mess at the back as a result.

Easy said with hindsight. But Crooks was always meant to be our captain, after that we were looking elsewhere and the season started without one. Morsy was a fortunate upgrade in my opinion.

I was saying this from the very start of the season, but got slammed down. For me, this season was always about bedd8mg in ( ok gelling), of a whole brand new squad. I doubt we’d have performed in those first 10 games much better under McKenna than we did under Cook. You can’t suddenly get players who don’t even know each other’s names, and were living in hotels , to be suddenly “ settled” in their new job, it’s just not going to happen, no matter how good they are.

We would have done though, given that a) the start McKenna made with those players b) he wouldn't have brought them necessarily c) there was absolutely no reason to completely destroy the squad and the season d) Cook had everything he could have wanted and more and fcuked it up and deserved to go because he was a more likeable Paul Jewell at most.

It's gonna be a much calmer season this year. I think most those players mentioned are not good enough for our aspirations. If looking at league one players we should aim for the best performers. The players that come to mind for me would be Brannagan of Oxford or Camara from Plymouth in the middle of the park. I'd agree Alfie May would be a decent option from the bench. Paddy Lane looks a talent too.
