One of the stipulations of standing areas is that you have to offer them to away fans as well. So are they planning to revert the away end back to standing, having put seats in a few years ago..?
Disappointing to be honest. Rail seats are not the panacea everyone thinks in terms of helping atmosphere. Your freedom to move is just as restricted, making it just as difficult for singers to congregate as with the current all-seater set up. Was really hoping a club like Peterborough would be the trojan horse that got normal terracing back on the menu... |  |

Could it be done in the SBRU? Would the acoustics be any better if all the fans who want to make some noise moved up there? Sounds like it’s a long way off if we have to offer it to away fans as well although would the pitch side part of the away section be suitable for a small safe standing area? |  | | |

Apparently one of the conditions of the safe standing trial was that away fans would also have access to safe standing. What I don’t understand is why clubs like Shrewsbury have it for home fans but not away. No mention of Peterborough putting them in the away end either. So are the club just using it as a bit of an excuse to delay the work as they’ve got other priorities at the moment? Or were those clubs granted an exception because rail seating is seen as a safer upgrade on their existing standard terrace?

I think the ‘must give it to away fans too’ part was just a condition of this particular Premiership/Championship trial. Shrewsbury never needed to be part of any trial as they hadn’t spent three years in the top two divisions so their ground wasn’t designated a mandatory all-seater - same at Wycombe who have a small safe standing section in their family stand, next to their terrace.
I assume Peterborough are also getting permission outside the terms of this particular trial, so the away fans condition doesn’t apply. [Post edited 4 May 2022 12:08]

They’ve been turning a blind eye to standing in Cobbold U2 as well, although appear to restrict ticket sales there as never full but always seems to be greyed out on the ticket site. Standing not an issue for them when no-one’s using the end box I guess so good little extension of the north. | | | |

Exeter has old-school terracing behind one goal, (the stand holds 6000 I think), - and I believe the away end is good too, though I've never been there myself. So that's something to look forward to. |  | | |

I think Exeter’s holds 4000 and is the largest remaining terrace at a football ground in England. |  |
