'Dele Alli could leave Everton this summer, despite only signing a two-and-a-half-year deal in January. The midfielder arrived from Tottenham on a free transfer, but the fee could eventually be worth up to £40m. Spurs are due a small bonus if Alli completes 10 matches for the Toffees. He has appeared nine times off the bench and been an unused sub in Frank Lampard’s last three games. Dele’s old employers would then land £10m if the 26-year-old completes 20 appearances, but he may have left before then. Everton are hoping to get anything up to £20m for the former MK Dons ace but they would have to hand 25 per cent of it to Spurs'
So Everton have paid nothing for him, not played him in enough matches to trigger a clause and then could sell him for £20m or so and give £5m to Spurs.
£15m for effectively paying Alli's wages for 6 months is outstanding business. How on earth did Spurs let him go for free and not just sell him to someone for more than the £5m they might get if Everton sell him around that value now?
They were clearly willing to get nothing for him and anything on top of that was just a bonus! |  | | |  |

He hasn't.
But what Spurs are effectively saying is that instead of selling him for whatever his value is, they were prepared to only get 25% of that same value, foregoing the other 75%.
Unless they actually believed Everton were stupid enough to play him in 10 games and trigger that clause. It looks pretty deliberately and cleverly managed by Everton. | | | |

One of the most overrated players I can remember in recent years. The odd moment of outrageous skill and touch but overall a very awkward footballer to watch, even when he was playing every week for Spurs. [Post edited 18 May 2022 16:08]
