JJ and Leigh 15:50 - Jul 14 with 1756 views | FrimleyBlue | How did these fellas look on Tuesday. Of course just a friendly so not expecting the world but first opinions?

Thanks dubs. Promising on the leigh front. JJ I'm still slightly puzzled by. Reminds me of the Barry loan last season a bit. Will add. This opinion of course not based on any kind of performance just the type of loan it is and how early it was made. [Post edited 14 Jul 2022 15:59]

I should add that in the friendly against Millwall last season, Burns was really poor, so don't read anything into a snap verdict based on 45 minutes of a pre season friendly.

Not sure the Barry comparison works really. John-Jules is 21, athletic, has nearly 50 appearances in senior football (and 17 goals/assists in amongst that) and caps for the England Under 21s. Barry was 18, slight, had 1 senior appearance. If he stays fit John-Jules is as experienced as you're going to get with a youth loan player in League One.

Blimey. Had no idea he'd has senior football. Literally thought he was u23 and that was it. OK not like Barry then lol.

Had a bit of a breakout half season with Doncaster in 2020-21, enough to earn him a loan to a Championship club. That didn't work, so back to League One for him.

Didn’t work out as he got injured at SW | | | | Login to get fewer ads

JJ and Leigh on 17:31 - Jul 14 with 1042 views | unstableblue | Didn't get to see a lot of JJ, but he looked switched-on, with some energy, and with the few touches you could see that he'd come through a good academy. I liked what I saw, but would need more time to form an opinion. Leigh looked promising, a step up from the low confidence and restricted Penney. He did a lot of things right, and is physical. Not quite as technically crisp (trapping, control, passing) as I was expecting, but it is pre-season. But yeah OK, my only concern was that he was one on one with the west ham full back on 4/5 occassions and he really didn't seem to want to take him on... he did get to byline once I think following a 1-2, and that was a good moment. I remain convinced we need to get rid of Piggot and Penney, and bring in a high calibre striker, and a strong left wing back... we also need a creative mid. Without those 3 i'd be less confident of a top two place. But I do think we have a squad that is settled and gelled which makes a difference. I think our season will pivot on whether we can get 20 goals out of a striker and if our attacking threat comes from more players than Burns. Mark my words Frimley, MARK THEM!

Solution to 20+ striker get a new RWB and play Burns as the main striker, I believe he has played up front before and I just think it would be a master stroke to give him a few games see how he does, but KM knows better than I, and no I don't play football manager so cant say with full on certainty it works!!
