Truss should be a Labour wet dream. Saying how she understands recession, unemployment and hardship having grown up in Thatcher’s/Major’s Britain. The same Thatcher she’s desperate to emulate 🤣

Starmer would absolutely destroy her at the despatch box.

If she wins the ballot that’s how I’ll console myself. But at least two years of a Truss leadership… dear me.

The Tory party membership won't give a sh1t. They'll still vote for her in their droves.

If they cared about competence or decency they wouldn't have voted Boris in 2019.

Or be Tory party members in the first place.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Yet he comes across as a right smug ****. Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst talking about the cost of living crisis and telling everyone he knows how they feel makes me want to punch him.

Agreed about the last two points but I can’t see how the membership will think that the cons will be more likely to be re-elected in two years just because she’s gonna reverse the NI increase which is pretty insignificant in the scheme of things and try to borrow her way to fiscal recovery with the inherent risk to interest rates.

I was dipping in and out, but he didn’t come across well to me either. Seemed to get a bit arsey. And yes, he oozes smugness. But then Truss is a windsock and as thick as pig swill. What a choice.

Sophisticated, nuanced arguments are wasted on tory party members.

I’m not seeing it that way (I’m no Tory by the way).

If the answer is Sunak, you have to ask how we got to this question.

However, in a party containing Dorries, Patel, Rees-Mogg, Hunt, Gove, Coffey, the other Hunt, ... or as GB put it, we aren't Tories so it isn't too much of a surprise they horrify us.

GB including himself with 'we' there?!??

I refer you to the response given to Keith Butler* on 17 May 1966.

*Or possibly John Cordwell.

No, he wasn't (or at least wasn't the way I read it). Although he used to argue that he wasn't a Tory, I haven't seen him deny it for a long time.
