I wonder how much the average pensioner does benefit in terms of dividends compared to the £2-3k likely annual price rises?

Would a nice, gentle little civil war qualify? Worth a pop?

Directors of listed companies have a fiduciary duty to put share holders first. Nothing will change until that changes.

and if a windfall tax still left them with a normal profit / dividend the pensioners income would no worse off than it was before.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

I assumed their main duty was to the company, hence was a bit surprised to see pensioner shareholders used as a justification. But I could be wrong. [Post edited 28 Jul 2022 10:27]

At the moment western oil and gas firms are typically investing 15pc of their capital in renewables (not enough and I suspect purely for ESG reasons). But the Economist highlighted the other day that state owned firms sit on approx 2/3rds of all reserves, and were investing in average just 5pc - that really is pathetic, and with all the talk of nationalisation begs the question why governments aren’t doing more.
