Mad story about a woman who can smell Parkinsons disease 08:57 - Sep 7 with 715 viewsgiant_stow

'She described her sense of smell as "a curse and a benefit", saying that she can sometimes smell people who have Parkinson's while in the supermarket or walking down the street, but has been told by medical ethicists she cannot tell them.'

For those without access, they're using her skills to develop a test and wondering if she can smell other conditions too. Superhero stuff.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

I heard about her a few years back (or someone like her), but hadn't realised they've been able to develop a test of the back of it. Pretty cool stuff.

Wonder what she's been through in her life.

After I was CO poisoned on repeat occasions & was told I was extraordinarily lucky to survive, I developed a really acute sense of smell which I've retained to this day, over 30 years later. CO's odourless of course, but there were a lot of other highly toxic chemicals coming through flue with a 10 foot gap in it into bedroom from faulty back-boiler in house I'd just bought.

I assume acquiring the extra-acute sensory perception is a biological self-preservation thing - I was also able to detect any leaking gas anywhere, as I'd get convulsions which would levitate me six inches from bed or chair! In rented accom, I could always tell when housemates had lit the gas cooker in kitchen below my bedroom, despite not knowing anyone was even in there.

But there is a moral dilemma.

She can pass a stranger on the street and know that he/she has Parkinson's. But she is not allowed to tell them...
