Twitter blue ticks 17:56 - Nov 2 with 1744 views | bluelagos | The proposed $8 pcm fee for blue tick holders on twitter - it's like an incentive to stay small and insignificant for the rest of us. Not that many of us need it, we have been doing just that anyways :-)

The blue (actually white) tick is primarily to show a genuine account holder. If people don't want to pay for that privilege, and why would they want to, then it's going to be carnage trying to work out who is real and who is fake.

A little bit like personalised number plates then?

How are blue ticks determined currently out of interest?

As was pointed out in the first response on the thread. Do you need a white stick?

You have to be genuine. As well as "famous" (eg MP, musician, scientist, accredited journalist). The proposed move would mean you'd no longer be able to distinguish fake accts. from the genuine article. I could end up leaving the platform if it goes that way. Others are already joining a similar new one.

I don't actually know tbh. Whatever the procedure is, it seems to work fairly well as I don't recall seeing many fake accounts gaining blue (white) ticks.

I don't use twitter, so haven't got a clue how it all works but on the radio the other night Trevor Nelson was saying his old account had been hacked and he couldn't get his new account official status.

I follow a chap on twitter (a reasonably well known musician, if your're into blues/rock guitarist/songwriters) and he had his account hacked and couldn't get control of it again. It was easier for him to start a new account. At about the same time my son got his steam account hacked (the hacker even cloned his mobile number to do this somehow) and he got back control of his account with in 12 hours.

The stupid thing in the past has been that if a genuine account holder forgot their pw, and their email provider linked to the account went bust & closed down, as happened with my first, original twitter account, it's impossible for them to regain access - and I've tried dozens of times by different routes, but Twitter didn't originally do the conventional thing of security questions, it was email only. Had to start a second account - the first one's still there as I can't even delete it! As you said in your previous post, it'd be a spectacularly stupid move by Musk if he goes through with it. Genuine 'blue ticks' will leave, any old conspiracy theorist will be able to buy their way into spreading their sh1t-stirring tripe, resulting in 'ordinary' decent people leaving by the million & the platform imploding. Musk isn't called 'The Chief Twit' for nothing!
