Depends what you've got, but I've been struggling to shift a cough off my chest for a month now (although feeling much better over the last couple of weeks).

A friend of mine is the same, and it's not Covid. Given this, it seems to me there is a case for greater use of masks in autumn/winter in certain circumstances such as crowded public transport, where I think the risk is greatest. I certainly still wear one, but virtually no one else does these days.

Headache, sore throat and cough - all now for 2 weeks plus by about 4pm I'm wiped out - have tested negative for Covid 4 times over that period...

I still wear one when I go to the supermarket.
I'm 99% certain my first bout of Covid was caught at the supermarket.
I still haven't thought of a witty response that won't get my nose broken when some neandrathal asks " Whatch you wearin' that 4"

I've had sinuses full of phlegm for the last twelve days, learning to live with it now but I tire a little more easily than usual. And yes, have tested negative for Covid-19 and am booster jabbed for that and flu.

Do I bother you that much?

Anyway, it's nothing to do with being frightened. It's common sense given the science shows crowded public transport is the greatest risk for the transmission of Covid, flu and the like. And this thread alone suggests there are some pretty nasty things floating about at the moment.

Many countries in the far east fared much better than us during the pandemic, and this must be because they learned the lessons of things like SARs and continue to take precautions.

Still, I'm obviously not as hard as you.

He's completely correct, there is definitely a strong case to be made for mask wearing in winter to prevent respiratory disease and the evidence from Asia backs this up along with computer modelling done during the pandemic on virus spread.

Like many of your posts during the pandemic, you dismiss and attack things you don't want to hear.

That's quite close to being frightened of them so perhaps a point of contemplation for you there.

It's sad state of affairs when people who look out for others are seen as the weak ones.

Surely being unselfish is quite the opposite of weak when it comes to personal traits/qualities.

In enclosed spaces during the winter months it does make sense for us all to wear a mask. This usually means a few minutes doesn't it. It's no hardship really and could well save a few people missing a week off work they can't afford.

Self checkouts, since restrictions have been dropped the screens aren't cleaned that's for sure, it's been totally forgotten about, by all of us..,

Everyone has slightly weaker immune responses to the viruses that usually go round due to the pandemic and things like social distancing and mask wearing which heavily restricted the transmission of various respiratory infections.

Most things have a fairly low R (flu for instance is around 1.3) whereas covid was about 3, then 5 and now something like 12. If you take steps to reduce the transmission of something like covid then viruses with a smaller R are going to have their chances of transmission hugely reduced. During the pandemic measures there was barely any flu in the US or the UK, it was virtually nil because anything that stopped covid would definitely stop flu.

In a few years we will be back to normal on immune responses but we could do so much more, mask wearing in winter on public transport or in confined spaces (something I've been shouted at repeatedly on here for suggesting and someone has also suggested in this thread) would make a massive difference to everyone.

Wearing a small piece of cloth when on public transport is hugely offensive to some though, more so than having a corrupt PM or a pathetic and constantly changing government for instance.

"By all of us".

Speak for yourself!

I've never taken those germ ridden things for granted and use the back of my knuckle to tap the screen, giving it a good wipe afterwards.

I trust no one else when it comes to hygiene!

Go on then "Bluebudgie", why don't you tell me what's factually incorrect with that post rather than just downvoting everything.

Let's hear your views for a change.

I've been similar but I know the reason.

My sister dropped by the weekend bringing flowers with her.

She knows damn well I'm allergic to the things.

I keep longing for them to hurry up and die.

We got ill and had to take time off work.

Which has been repeated a thousand times and you already know.

What exactly do you hope to achieve with those kind of daft comments?

It's not much to expect people to take a bit of responsibility for themselves is it? You know, as grown fecking adults. What a thing to whine about.

Heh. I wouldn't be in the will so there's nothing in that for me M'Lud.

I tolerated the flowers for 4 days then had to put them outside.

Allergies have been so bad I've felt compelled to do housework and everything just in case it's that. I dusted earlier in the year so am a bit put out that needs doing again.

Even bought a Sebo. That thing tries to detach the carpet from the floor.

So things should never change? What an absurd attitude but certainly one I've come to expect from you. Just like the time you said you wouldn't take the Pfizer but might take the AZ as you didn't like big Pharma. Just nonsense that you'd heard somewhere.

Perhaps we were doing things wrong pre-covid? Perhaps there is a better way. I'll give you a hint, there is a better way and it's used across Asia as they have had more experience with respiratory viruses than we have.

Honestly, it's having to deal with entrenched and unscientific attitudes like yours that is depressing. The science is clear, perhaps others don't want to have to cope with your illnesses.
