I think 5 at the back suits the squad best, but in a game like this where Iran will likely sit back we will need an attacking midfielder in there so I understand Southgate's logic.

Trippier's been the best Premier League RB this season. We also don't have a Fabinho-style CDM who can cover for Trent's attacking runs and occasional defensive lapse. He would be excellent playing for France or Brazil but the system which suits him best isn't compatible with the squad we've got. | |
