Ahhh man what an icon. That Chelsea squad in the late 90s was great, if Arse and ManU weren’t also peak they’d have done so much more. Guillit, Zola, amazing.

Did Vialli play in the Coca cola cup 2-2 draw that went to pens at PR in 98?

Jeeze, 58, that’s so sad. I knew he had pancreatic cancer but thought he’d beaten it. A great player, a cult hero to many of the clubs he played for and spoken of very fondly by all those who knew him.
I love players who show their enthusiasm passion and total joy for the game, and he was a great personality. RIP Gianluca.

I can't remember Vialli in that match, although Gullit (who was Chelsea's player manager then) played - I think he came on as a sub. His legs had gone by then though - big Micky Stockwell swarming all over him!

Such a shame to read this very sad news, thought he was a terrific player not your usual Italian striker, he was very much part of that superstar squad they had in Italia '90. Such an icon of the game, both here and in Italy. 58 years old, just nothing this day and age! RIP Gianluca.

Yep, I am sure I would have remembered Vialli being on the pitch so I make you right. Fifty eight is gone much too young:
