shhhhh! ...we are good enough to be a Championship club again. on 10:50 - Jan 29 with 2027 viewsHerbivore

Just got to get out of this sodding league now. Honestly think that with minimal changes to the squad we'd be competing in the top half of the Championship, but getting there has been our issue. Need to use the last two performances as a springboard for the rest of the season.

If Broadhead and Clarke continue like they have started I think they are the final pieces of the jigsaw. Our first 11 is ridiculous now.

Chaplin and Broadhead behind Ladapo, who looks like an increasingly good signing by the week, should be far too much for most teams.

Agreed, that is some ridiculous firepower now. Broadhead gives us a different dimension as well, quick and direct and not afraid to have a shot. I think he'll get some important goals over the remainder of the season. Clarke looked too good for League 1 on debut. That we were able to make 8 changes and give Burnley a game shows the depth we have.

Good performance yesterday and with both teams having made lots of changes showed that we have the depth of squad to feel comfortable in the Championship.

The difficult bit remains, getting out of this league. The incentive is there for everyone, players, management and supporters. Playing at a higher level, going to more decent grounds, and presumably for KMc, coaching staff and players financial reward.

The prospect is there for a repeat of 2001/2 season when every match was an adventure but this is just a dream unless we gain promotion.

lets hope everyone wants it to happen, and we don’t get sidelined dreaming about the potential of a 5th round game against a big Premier League Club.

Yes. Based on the current squad and no additions, I think we would probably be a mid-table side without too much bother. So no reason why we can’t build and climb further.

Getting there may be a lot trickier though as we still look less of an automatic promotion side than Plymouth or Sheffield Weds (not as ruthless nor as consistent in getting results as we need to be).

With the financial backing and McKenna, we have a massive opportunity. I just hope we can take our chance to stop the weight of expectation and failure taking over instead.

Pretty sure if promotion is achieved this season that we can expect squad strengthening before next season starts.

Totally.

Yesterday was a very encouraging sign against a side that clearly has an extra gear and quality but we matched them certainly as the home side. I’m only concerned about the conundrum that we’re not yet good enough to get out of this division on our own terms.

Hopefully, a performance like yesterday’s might encourage and focus us a bit more now the step beyond promotion looks to be very manageable. We have to make the next few months count.

Just to say that I think a Cup run isn’t necessarily a distraction if we use that excitement and break from the weekly grind to build confidence and momentum, and give players the game time they need to be up for the league battle.

Really? On the basis of one match against a reserve side, which we only drew and failed to score?
We were woeful at Oxford, and we have failed to defeat some other "ordinary" League One sides.
There's a long way to go.
Certainly some optimism is a good thing, but don't let's start counting our chickens yet!!!

Our team was as much a reserve team as theirs, which shows the quality we have in depth. I'd back this squad to do pretty well in the Championship, but we've got to get there first.

We made more changes to the starting eleven than they did.

We need to be more ruthless and not ease up as we did against Morecambe. Get that extra cushion to safeguard against conceding a late goal.

We have the history and resources but I checked the league table and it says we are good enough to be in the league 1 playoffs. So good enough for a 1 in 4 chance of being a Championship club

We are NOT a L1 club in anyway. So I agree
