We need to sure up the defence and Leigh offers far more in that respect (strength, positioning, aerial ability) than Davis and is also very capable going forward. Davis has been hit and miss lately, looks tired and needing of a rest.

Given how poor we’ve looked at the back for the last couple of months, I think we have to go 4 at the back and help ourselves out in that regard and I think Leigh is the best we have at left back for that job. Davis is better at attacking and has loads of assists etc, but the defence needs help and we have plenty of attacking players to choose from that can come in for Davis without losing too much.

Greg Leighs performance away at Lincoln was utterly dreadful. Leif Davis is a vastly superior left back, who is putting up crazy attacking numbers, Take him out and you will lose far more than you gain.

What Town player wasn’t crap that game? Leigh was brilliant against Burnley last game

He played better against Burnley than Walton has for ages, plus he’s much more accomplished with his feet, which considering we like to play out from the keeper, is a big plus, the players were clearly much more confident knocking the ball back to him than they are Walton, allows us another option over Walton.

Yep, or a 352, loads of options, but just something that allows us to load the defence when needed

Leigh is more of a defender in that left back position, whilst Davis is more of an attacker than a defender. Apples and oranges comparison tbh.

I reckon our best team is: Walton Donacien Woolfie Fridge Davis Humphreys Morsy Burns Chaplin Edwards Ladapo Not seen enough of Broady, Hirst or Clarke but we were doing ok in the first part of the season without them so I’d start them on the bench

Team I’d like to see put out on 12:59 - Feb 5 with 1248 views | pointofblue | I think we need to switch to three at the back. Walton Donacien - Woolfenden - Edmundson Burns - Morsy - Luongo - Davis Chaplin - Ladapo - Broadhead The formation of the front three is interchangeable - could go with a flat three, two number tens, one number ten with a top two. But I don’t think the back four is working and something needs to give; the back three did a good job at the back end of last season and start of this so not sure why it’s been changed.

Yep agree. Definitely taken a backwards step since going to a 4. I'd have Clarke over JD though.

We’ve been playing 3 at the back, yesterday was Clarke, Keogh and Edmundson and Burns/Davis right and left midfield, neither dropping back hardly at all. I think that’s where our problems lie lately, the 3 at the back has been too easily beaten, hence why I’d rather have a 4 man defence. The reason I’ve got Broadhead up front, is cos that’s his usual and natural position and it means we would have a different style of attack, we would be looking to play balls through and get in behind, rather than sitting in front of the defences with the hold up style we’ve been utilising. Might see less sideways passing and be more direct, we sure as hell carry enough threat, just not using it properly IMO.

I can see why but a back three including the other two and Clarke is 21, 24 and 25 which is possibly a bit inexperienced. If Clarke is at RCB, I’d be tempted to play Burgess at LCB with one of Woolfenden or Edmundson in the middle. Additionally, Donacien has built a relationship with Burns whilst playing in a three.

The thing is that we now have Broadhead. Yesterday, in the first half, Broadhead got little of the ball because Davis was pressing forward so much. In effect, Davis seemed to be cramping Broadhead's style. I remember Mick Mills making a similar point after a game before Christmas when Edwards came on. And Edwards yesterday seemed to play well yesterday without Davis. The fact is that Davis has not played especially well for a little while, and he is not as good defensively as Leigh, so maybe now is the time to bring in Leigh, who is not bad going forward as well. For the most part we've been playing four at the back in more of a 4-2-3-1 approach with Burns pushed further forward, throughout our bad run. It puts pressure on Woolfenden, especially, when trying to move forward - especially when he was playing alongside Burgess, as Donacien was further to the right than before. Yesterday was a case of the wrong personnel but Clarke was getting forward quite a bit for someone who was supposedly the third of a three; I'd argue he was more of a right back but, if McKenna was trying a back three, it just shows we were lopsided again - we shouldn't have the right sided player making those runs as we become lopsided; it should be the central player.
