Didn't seem to do a lot wrong relative to the rest of them, but presumably we wanted Donacien to be a 3rd centre back to compensate for Kyle Edwards going left wing back?

Throw ins were more dangerous than our crossing too

Wasn't Clarke the 3rd centre back anyway? (Clarke, Keogh, Edmundson)

It's been a 4-2-3-1 for most of the season really.

We haven't played three at the back since the end of last season.

We've started with 3 at the back for probably close to two thirds of our games this season, either 3-4-2-1 (mostly) or 3-4-3.

No we haven't. We have started with two centre backs, mostly Woolfy and Burgess, with JD as a right back and Davis as a left back.

Wasn't playing very well! Very ineffective and they looked like scoring everytime they attacked. JD played really well and we looked more dangerous with him on the field.

Our formation is very easily checked, why don't you take a look somewhere on Google, or indeed, the club website.

I go with what I see on the pitch and what our manager has stated.

If we're not playing 3 centre-backs, then why does the official site list the team 3-4-2-1 ?

Most of the season it's been like that.. but it hasn't looked like that on the pitch

It's definitely more of a 4. With Burns playing a more standard wing role and JD being further back. It's one of the reason burns isn't getting the space he once had as he's higher up the pitch.

It's not however what you'd call a cambridge flat 4 which doesn't evolve through the game into a fluid 3 at the back ala Chelsea when attacking.

That comes out an hour before the game. I’m pretty sure KM doesn’t give the opposition manager his formation before they take to the field.

I go with what I see on the pitch and what our manager has stated.

KMc has always shied away from outlining the system in terms of numbers when asked. He tends to refer to it as a hybrid, which I think is right. Donacien/Clarke certainly aren't playing on the right in the same way as Davis is on the left. The width on one side usually comes from Burns and on the other Davis. Donacien is sort of between a centre-half and right-back.

True, but I don't think week after week he tries to hoodwink the opposition with a twitter account either.

Personally I think it's a hybrid because Clarke is much more often in the right-back position than Edmundson is left-back, yet Davis is playing left wing-back although not as continually as advanced as Burns.

A 3.5-3.5-2-1 formation.

It's not too dissimilar from 2000/01 when we played 5-3-2 but lop-sided on the other side. In midfield, Wright was on the right, Magilton and Holland were in the middle with no-one on the left because Hermann/Clapham bombed down the left more often than Wilnis would down the right and Venus often ended up in the left-back/centre-back area.
