94, so a good age. But very sad as I loved his work, especially with Hal David.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

I didn't think he was that old, life passes you by so quickly.

I've occassionly wondered how many people have stopped to ask someone directions with the question "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" and receive the response with a shake of the head "Walk on By"

By coincidence, 6 Music is playing songs from 1978 today, and played this great version of one of his songs earlier today.

Surprisingly, this is one of his songs. It brings great memories from my childhood.

Festival Hall 96’, we sat in front of Liam and Patsy, so you knew Noel was coming on. He did This Guys In Love With You with Burt( which Noel nicked for Half The World Away, the theme form The Royce Family . Anyway, a cracking night, couple of days after Euro 96’ semi, Burt talked about being here in 66’, in The Playboy Club with Bobby Moore late night after the final! Those tunes man, those tunes. Burt was the cool guy, but don’t forget Hal David who wrote those lyrics.

A fav on 'Uncle Mac' playing requests on BBC radio 'Childrens Hour' ('Light Programme' was it?) on Saturday mornings - can't remember how you put a request in - wrote actual letters & posted them? Cos in the 50s & early 60s, most homes didn't even have a phone.

The world's changed incredibly in the last 75 years. I think it was the 'Yesterday' channel (fv 27) which pointed out in a docu on Tues that in the USA it was one decade which was most startling - from candles, washing by hand & travelling by horse in 1900, to electric light, washing machines, cars, trains & phones by 1910.

Thanks for that! I’ve a grainy picture taken with a disposable camera from that night! Burt got a second wind after his appearance on the Oasis album cover, country went lounge nuts! Along comes Austin Powers, he’s there again!
