If Manchester City are relegated from The Premier League. 01:46 - Feb 11 with 1405 viewsMercian

The Football League are not obliged to except them as they are different organisations. The situation mirrors when Rangers were expelled from The Scottish Premiership and The Scottish Football League excepted them but only in their bottom division. I don't think it will happen but I don't think the likes of Halaand, KDB and Foden will relish an away day at Sutton United.

That they didn’t cooperate with the investigation should be a significant aggravating factor (if they are found guilty) and in such circumstances, not to relegate them would accommodate the view that Man City and their owners are in fact bigger than the league.

If they are found guilty and didn’t cooperate, it is imperative that they receive the most severe penalties.

Would they be required to accept them, though?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Man City won’t be touched. They are far too important. They and a few others are the Premier League. If found guilty of anything they might get a fine, which to the crowd that own them is the equivalent of about 10p

As for Rangers, without going into it, from what I know they were lucky to remain in existence at all.

They will appeal all penalties, I imagine, in order to try and preserve a veil of innocence, to portray themselves as an aggrieved party.

The league, for its part, must however be uncompromising. In a sense, it’s not just Man City that is on trial, it’s the integrity and authority of the league.

Of course they would. Lower league Scottish clubs were desperate to get Rangers in their league as they are a cash cow. These clubs had never seen so many away fans in their stadium.

The situation with Rangers came about because the club was effectively wound up and restarted. In League terms, they were a new club attempting to join.

Think Juventus had something similar didn’t they?

Man City will get a mediocre fine and transfer ban for a couple of windows - then it’ll be business as usual. Football is all about money now and has no morals.

IF the PL takes action, it will most likely dictate what the EFL does with City, with the threat of withholding solidarity payments, or refusing to accept promoted EFL teams.

The absolute worst that will happen to City is a season in the Championship, before normal service is resumed.

Relegate them to the championship and hit them with the biggest fine ever in football. Put one more championship club up this season to replace them.

But knowing the Premier league they'll hit them with a mediocre fine and maybe a 15 point deduction this season if they are really unlucky.
