With all these roadworks ( A14/A12), which route are people taking if driving under your steam? Seems a rubbish destination to get to tbh. Thought I’d do A14 up to Cambridge then A428 to St Neots, then A421 Bedford …… then on to MK.
Any better routes ?

I'm undecided as well.... A12 is a nightmare for roadworks at the moment, and the last two away trips I done down the A12 were a pain in the neck (Wycombe & Oxford) and we lost both.
My only nagging doubt for the A14 then St Neots route, is the single carriageway on around St Neots was incredibly slow the last time I went that way.... although A14 / St Neots is the way I am leaning at the moment. |  |

I e just googled mapped the route snd it’s saying the route is listed above is the quickest at 1hr 55mins. The other route A12 or A14 via Royston are roughly 2&1/2 hrs …. The A14 I think shuts at 8pm such a PITA! | |

There are 3 sets of roadworks on the A12, 40mph for a few miles the Ipswich side of Colchester, 50mph around Colchester, 40mph around Margaretting (but the cameras don't seem to be switched on there yet), plus the start of a couple of years or work (again) on the A12 / M25 jcn, which has also been having issues with traffic light phasing...
A12 / A120 / M11 /M1 / A5 is a reasonable route as it brings you into the stadium. A5 has temporary lights though, about 10 miles from MK. | | | |

The A12 / M25 junction is being completely re-built I think - and about time, it's the worst designed roundabout in the country and none of the lanes flow round correctly.
I got hit by a lorry there a couple of years ago. | |

I think road shuts from 8pm …
Edit: National Highways state A14 WESTBOUND only closures from 8pm -6am from Monday 20th Feb to Tuesday 28th March. Mon-Friday….. so looks like at the w/e it’s open !? [Post edited 24 Feb 2023 16:54]

How do you get from M11 to M1 or are teleporters working?
Has to be A14/A428/A1/A421 but expect traffic to slow beyond Caxton Gibbet to St Neots.
No overnight closure on A14, was closed last night eastbound and will be closed Sunday night, as they prepare for Contraflow working while road repairs take place.
Looking ahead might be a minor inconvenience for the night game against Accrington. |  |

The A12 / M25 junction is getting a complete makeover soon with a separate slip road going M25 anti-clockwise to A12 avoiding that dreaded roundabout with the kamikaze lane markings (similar to what they did at the A14 / A14 junction at Girton) | |

I've been living near mk for 6 years and EVERY time I go back to Suffolk, I take the A421/A428/A14 route. Definitely the best route to take in my opinion. |  |
