Ah yes. They are a couple of years younger than me, possibly Bossbeards age and he was also a Nactonite. I’ll send him the pic.

Was he related to the Benneworth driving instructor who from what I remember operated out of the Nacton Heath area? I left in ‘78, what about you?

Driving instructor Benneworth taught my Mrs how to drive but I’m not sure they were related - I don’t know. There were brothers Mark and Dave (in the pic) whose dad had Bennys newsagents opposite The Plough back in the day. [Post edited 30 Mar 2023 21:34]

That is probably the daftest thing I have ever seen posted on here. They never took it to us even at Carrow Rd - aside from 83 in the FA Cup I'm not saying they never had a firm, in fact they had their moments but they never had Ipswich. I know a few of their older lads. For some reason they gave their best efforts to QPR, Leicester and Grimsby - and I know they have got something planned for Wolves next time they meet - but Ipswich, even they will tell you they have pretty much always come unstuck. Well, at least their real lads will admit it anyway.

A person asking a question about events he wasn't born for so would have no clue about the outcome. Daft indeed.

Fair. I only know of last 20 years and it's the same. England game at Portman Road they brought barely anyone despite claiming they'll take over the town. The Thursday night game in 2011 all was expected they'll show in numbers. But again nothing really and bizarrely some hid in family restaurants all day (Frankie & Bennys). If you know their older lads then any reason why they take to the others and not in Ipswich especially? 2003 & 2011 would've and should've been the times they show their rivals what they're about. Didn't their Wolves history stem from the play offs against them? Pretty sure Wolves were bang out of order with their "normal" fans? If there's such a thing up there.

I can't directly comment on the England game as I took the young RKD and didn't go into town as such - however yes, reports back were that Norwich didn't show and Ipswich did ok in controlling their own turf. That Thursday night game though was mental, absolutely crazy! I don't think I have seen such a turnout since FA Cup v Charlton at home circa 1982. I reckon there must have been 300 lads out that day. At the time my friend had The County of Suffolk pub - and I forgot to advise her that we were going to hit it early doors - she gave me a proper lashing over that. Frankie & Bennys - yes, they were in there, we popped over to take a look but they all had their heads down. I think it was mainly their Yarmouth lot. Back to Norwich. I really don't know, I know two of their ex older boys quite well and they don't really say much apart from when they both got battered on Yarmouth Rd circa 1985. To be honest, I think back in late 70's and early 80's they were petrified of our black brothers and it sort of lingered on from then.

They walked out of Frankie and Bennies, as you say the yarmouth yellow lot, and quickly got walloped left right and centre. They drank in norwich most of the day then came down in time for kick off, hence the hold up on PR in them getting in (from a ncfc chap I know) Even up there, we’ve gone to an out of town pub, walked in with no issues. They’ve known we are there, they do nothing. We’ll alway have upper hand.

It's been silly posturing since the 80s. Those days are long gone thankfully.
