Energy prices starting to hit 17:33 - Dec 7 with 10338 views | gtsb1966 | Seeing lots of social media posts with people shocked at how much their gas is costing now that they've had to put their heating on properly. Some people reckon their gas and electric combined was a tenner a day!!!. Checked mine and in a week we used £20 worth of gas. We only use it for heating and hot water and we haven't hardly had the heating on. It'll sting but luckily we can afford it but I feel so sorry for those who can't. This week must've made quite a few people massively stressed.
Energy prices starting to hit on 17:42 - Dec 7 with 4801 views | chicoazul | We have the heating on for 4 hours a day now and we don’t get above £8 a day so far on our smart meter. Here’s what I don’t understand. We pay £X per month and have built £Y amount of credit which is larger than X by a magnitude of nearly x2. Even if we went to £10 a day (which we won’t) the difference between what we pay now and 300 a month would be more than offset by the amount of credit we have built up. So why do my supplier keep threatening to put my direct debit up?

I was reading about baby formula now being so expensive some people can't afford it. With rents, energy prices and food rocketing some people are in for a bleak few years.

When our little one was born last Xmas, it was £10.50 a box, it’s now £13.50 a box. I know that’s not much, but on top of everything else it does add up. Luckily the boy is slowly starting to come off it, so in another months time or so he won’t need it anymore, but a sorry state of affairs for some.

Haven’t noticed any difference at home, in fact I think it’s gone down. Thing is - it’s been quite mild - and England is relatively mild - considering I’m in bloody Scotland at the moment and it’s like nothing on earth for a namby pamby southerner. Just had a couple of pints and the pubs are freezing and the beer was like a slush puppy. Seriously worry about people. I’m very much a take care of your own problems type of person, work hard and don’t spend what you haven’t got - but in this instance It is 100% down to government to help people out.

Phone them and discuss. Bulb have consistently put up my direct debit, and every time I speak to them they agree to put it back to a level I am happy with. They wanted 450 a month, which was based k on the previous owners consumption as I only moved here in Feb. It's now set at 200 per month, but I have over £500 in credit which should cover me for winter. Bulb were very reasonable and understood though I did go prepared with my forecasted consumption which helped the discussion [Post edited 7 Dec 2022 18:33]

Do what I did with British Gas - tell them to fck off, cancel the direct debit and only pay what you owe. In my case they have made an absolute balls up of my account since I was moved to them in Sept 2921, and since August have not allowed me to access my account saying they are still 'moving me'. As I have not had a bill for 3 months lord alone knows what it is. Actually do I have worked out what the amount is - units used plus daily charge But that money is in my account, not there's

Cos' their algorhythms are crap. My company doesn't even take winter into account. I built up money Apr-Oct and they just refunded it, so by April I will get a bill and be in debt by about the same amount and up will go the direct debit.

Don't pay by Direct Debit. Funny how you tend to find most customers with credit. Where's does all that money sit? Who's earning from that money sitting there?

I wonder how much money these energy companies have in the way of over payments built up during the summer months. Hasten the day that we rid ourselves of a government who work for these utility companies, not voters. Privatise water, so we have a choice of water suppliers ! Whereas all that happened was huge amounts of 'spare' water board land/assets were sold off to boost dividends, and executive bonuses. Only now, when is it too late, are folk grasping that (their) stupidity has consequences

I’m looking at getting solar panels, I’ve found a firm that will give a credit deal and your monthly costs per month for the panels are less than your current electric bill. I need to drill down on the figures but haven’t had the time. I’ll do it in Jan and will post the findings and also the company offering the deal. On the surface of it’s a win win - however, like many things, the people who could benefit most might fail the credit check…. ….often the same people who can’t get a mortgage and have to rent - even though the rent is possibly double what their mortgage would be, if they could get one. Funny old world. [Post edited 7 Dec 2022 19:09]

To put this into context...as per a post below. Bulb have 1.5m customers. Poster below said they were 500 in credit. Let's be conservative and halve the amount and say 50% are in credit They are sitting on around £187m.

Yep it's a chunk of change that's for sure. Bulb have offered to refund me or even switch to a pay as you go tariff, but for my own reasons I decided to leave it as it is and draw down on it over the next few months. Completely my call. What would have been nice would have been Bulb actually updating my forecasted usage which would have given a much more accurate monthly direct debit

British Gas are an absolute pain in my experience. Used to be expensive when compared to others, though all companies are now running at similar tariffs due to the price cap.
