Not as bad as "You've seen the Ipswich, now eff off home" aimed, where I was sat, at a wide variety of Peterborough fans, of all ages, in the side section, and even the mascots.
Very lacking in class, and totally unnecessary on such a marvellous day.

Not really. Unless you count us as a tinpot team. Think it is basically sung when there is a big following and little competition from the home fans. It's basically a better version of 'Football in a library'. And judging from Saturday's rendition, you seem to be in a very small minority...

Come on mate. It suited the atmosphere perfectly. 3800 Town fans having a great day out and singing as one. We completely owned their stadium at that point. Not in the least bit tinpot.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I really don't think there is anything wrong with it. Just like "left side, right side", it's all in good fun. We'll get "Ipswich is a 5h1thole" next Saturday and Stanley will keep hearing "my garden shed" forevermore.
Most people singing these would happily have a beer with one another at the end of the game. To my mind, it's not that deep! Same story with singing "we are top of the league" only to be bounced back to second a few minutes later - it's just people having a bit of fun while it lasts, it doesn't have any bearing on what happens at Home Park so who cares!
We're also probably not the finest football team the world has ever seen, although we're not far off it

My first Ipswich match was in 1969, and in the 70s I would have happily joined in such songs in the North Stand against London or other hooligans on the other side.
But I am not sure I would, even in those days, have targeted the fans of a club such as Peterborough sitting in the side section, particularly given the venom with which many of those around me sung the song.

It's very tame compared to a lot of clubs. We have been too nice for too long, I don't mind a bit of unabashed tribalism for 90 minutes - I don't think you'll find many Posh fans who took it to heart.

It will certainly be different if we get promoted but I suppose I just feel a little sympathetic to the fans of the smaller clubs in the division.
