Hemlock is all over the place this year, as has been for while now. The stench of it a few weeks ago on bike rides and car journeys around south Suffolk was incredible. It won't jump off the verge and murder you if you don't start gnawing on it.

The danger of this sort of stupid, ill-informed article is that ignorant people go out with industrial strength weedkillers and kill off everything that isn't grass or fkn daffodils.

People overreacting as usual. This is totally stupid

"The head teacher of Bucklesham Primary School in Suffolk said pupils had to walk in the road to avoid the hemlock, which can be fatal if ingested. "

So pupils are being put at risk of getting knocked over by traffic to avoid something that wont harm them unless they ingest it.

The rashes can be pretty serious I believe - I certainly take care to avoid any in undergrowth or that's overhanging footpaths when out walking.

'A village parish councillor warned "children's lives are at stake" and called for the plant's urgent removal.'

Just shows what a stupid couch potato society we've become. Parish councillor, ffs.

Most mollycoddled kids these days wouldn't eat anything green unless it was freshly unwrapped from a nice bit of LDPE and shaped like a fkn spaceship or a dinosaur or something anyway!

I was out with the dog one day last summer and met a young family.

The boy, aged about 7, had put his hand in a load of nettles, which was stinging rather badly. I graps some dock leaves and suggested to his mum and dad they used those.

They looked at me in some kind disbelief and asked "why what will they do"

My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk

I loves a bit of Joni Mitchell.

Also this by Keats:
'Hey farmer, farmer, put away that DDT now,
Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, you beard-splitter.'

Er, they seem to be getting their knickers in a twist over something that’s always been commonplace. All a bit odd.
