I genuinely don't see the likes of Burgess and Davis coping at the back. ( Davis of course developing but he will need to develop quick. Same with clarke the other side)

One of our weak points last year was players running at us and that's still concerning when you look at some of the phases of play some teams have had. At the moment. V Leicester isn't one I'm looking forward to.

I’ve been saying till I’m blue in the face that I don’t think our defence is anywhere near strong enough . Guess we’ll find out over the coming months won’t we….. will be extremely happy to be proven completely wrong btw.

But what about all those cleansheets in league 1

depends on who you've seen, i think we all knew leicester, leeds, soton, cov were going to be strong.

we may take some time to adjust, but remember that burnley ran away with it last year, and they didn't seem that much bigger and stronger than us...

Yes those of us that are worried are very much hoping we are wrong . Me I will be happy enough if we are not in a relegation battle even if some pundits have us as one of the favourites.

I have been saying this too and getting slated regularly for it. Being accused of being a scum fan etc. Our defense really isn't going to be good enough. Those that think it is are in for a nasty shock. Why oh why this hasn't been addressed only KK and MA know. There are defenders out there that can do a job for us but we dont seem very intent on getting any in. Cathcart for one. He would do a solid job.

And Kompany turned around and said we were more than ready for the Championship - we didn't have our strongest team out in either game, either.

True enough I watched the Norwich game as well . Hull looked poor and QPR seem likely to struggle .

we aren't the finished article, but we're far from the only ones. chatting to a leeds fan this morning and farke has been saying that they need a new centre back, a new full back, new centre-mid and new striker.

expect the squads to look very different in 25 days as the market picks up

For all those saying the defence is weak, isn't the overall perception that we would only replace one player - Burgess? Or do people want to see one or more of Clarke, Davis or Woolfenden also moved to reserve?

Obviously losing Walton for a period of time is a blow.

Leeds look good but that might be because Cardiff are rubbish. Probably going to need 10 or 15 games to get a good idea of where we’re at

Mainly Burgess
For me it would then help Davis on that side which in turn helps the others.

So yeah just Burgess for me as in who to actually replace in the lineup.

QPR, Sheffield Wednesday, and Rotherham look toilet so we should hopefully be able to finish above all of those. I would be much less concerned if Walton was available though.

If you can post "Sunderland look good but that might be because Ipswich are rubbish," at around twenty past five I would be very graetful.

yes, walton is the last person i'd want to lose for the opener.

however hladky played well 3 times last season against championship oppsition, so, hoping he has a good one!

Don't even think Soton looked good, kept the ball but did little with it and they are only going to go weaker.

The reality is there about 10 very good teams(I would be tempted to include us in this) and a lot of really bad teams. Our style of play is good enough to see us through. We've largely got a team of players who should've been playing in the championship last year instead of League One.

As things stand , I don’t know why so many people think we’ll be troubling the playoffs. I wish I was that confident, but I think some are underestimating the step up in quality. Mid table consolidation is my prediction and would be a good achievement in itself. Anything better than that obviously a bonus.

the case for playoff possibility is the teams who made it last year. we can aspire to be as good as sunderland who scraped out of league one, luton or cov.

however, the teams who came down from the prem are much stronger this year, so it's going to be tougher.

Is it really that many who think we’ll make top six? Genuinely haven’t seen that on here or twitter

I'd say Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday are stronger than Wigan and Rotherham as well. Plus the likes of Birmingham and Stoke have investment which they didn't have last year.

I think that we look better than a fair few teams but not as strong as others which is what we should all expect really as we’re new to the league, not to mention we all remember how terrible we were in all respects last time we were here, it’s gonna take a few weeks to exorcise those demons to a point where we as fans believe we belong again

Frimmers agrees with you.

The defence rests, m'lud.
