Cross bar challenge Chaplin edition 23:58 - Aug 6 with 1706 viewsCoastalblue

Not seen much mention of Chaplin hitting the bar amongst all the other excitement but what a goal that would have been and shows somebody who is filled with confidence at the moment.

We really could have had 3 or 4 today despite the amount of possession Sunderland had and they looked very light up front.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Add it to the list of ‘almost incredible Ipswich goals’

Walton header against the bar last minute at Plymouth
Priskin offside overhead kick
Jaime Peters goal at Watford with the most elaborate goal celebration we’ve ever had

I’m just pleased Celina didn’t clip the bar against Crewe and Counago did slam the post late v Coventry.

Still have no idea how it wasn’t then a penalty for the “challenge” on Hirst.

Straight through the back of him, nowhere near the ball. If that’s not a penalty, I don’t know what is.

Looked a penalty all day long for me. That was one heck of an effort from Chaplin.

Wasn't it after that when Soccer A.M. introduced the crossbar challenge?

A ridiculous decision. I don’t think anyone in the stadium could’ve complained if that was given yet for some inexplicable reason the ref decided not to give it. I can understand McKenna’s frustrations and frankly I would want an answer. I don’t understand what he thinks he’s seen, it can’t have been Ballard getting the ball.

The only thing I can think of is the ref thought the ball bounced high and hirst had mistimed his run up and flung himself to try and make contact with the ball and in doing so fell over himself.

That's the only reason. I don't think that happened but I think that was the refs view of it.

a niche perspective
