The first time we gained three points for a win in the Football League, courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford (Wark and Brazil with the goals). This followed the 3-3 with Sunderland at Portman Road on the opening day of the season and a 1-1 draw at Birmingham in our second match.

Was it 3 or 4 years before then that we lost out on the title due to 2pts for a win, rather than 3 and ended up third? Derby winning it, although we had won more games.

Noticeable how the home supporters don't all stand up and call the goal scorer a w@nker every time they concede.

Prior to the launch of Uefa's Respect campaign in 2008 only the ref could be called a w@nker.

Even worse from our point of view, that was the only time in history that there would have been a different champion had it been 3pts for a win.

That is just our luck! It's weird to think had things gone differently we could have won the title 4 times.

I was going to challenge this, and say that 3 points for a win didn't start till the 80s, then I realised the 42 years ago was the 80s.......

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

81-2 although we finished second, did it ever feel like we were in with a shout?

I remember Liverpool being very strong that season, almost relentless.

80-81 was the real missed opportunity.

To be fair, Derby won the league with a game to spare, so had probably been out on the pop a fair bit before their final game which they drew 0 0 at home. But who knows!

I like the very brief shot of the Town fans at the end. Very few 'colours' on display, just two or three scarves. One guy with his scarf worn 'properly' , knotted like a tie around his neck, Bay City Rollers-style.

Also notice a policeman actually in the crowd, just standing at the back watching the game like everyone else. Was that ever a thing at Portman Road, that you could be stood next to a cop?
