What is the actual value of the assets? If debt exceeds assets isn't that a problem? Or is it OK if the debt is over a long enough period that the assets are likely to realise sufficient income to service it?

That’s insane. Who is it owed to?

What was our debt when we went into administration? I’d guess it was less than £10m

Outstanding payments for players is an unknown and not a problem, also debts on loans are not an issue as income more than covers repayments. Still a huge amount to owe but no problem in servicing for Utd. This is the mad world of Premier League big clubs.

Manchester United are worse run than WCW under Ted Turner and Bischof.

Imagine being a United fan and reading this.

It is understood that Sheikh Jassim's bid would have been a fully cash offer and would have cleared all old debt. There would also have been more than £1.4bn to finance new stadium plans, new training centre facilities, buy players and also for community regeneration projects.

I'd bet that he hasn't really pulled out and the dissemination of those details and the level of debt is designed to put the squeeze on the Glazers ...

with them needing to revamp Old Trafford, and the training ground plus continue to spend in the market the Glazers not putting in a penny, if they don't sell where is the money coming from?

Radcliffe would be a fool to invest with the Glazers, he would be starting on the back foot straight away.

They could quite easily end up as the next Barca, loaded with debt and for what? At least Barca won some leagues and champions league. Their ownership reminds me so much of Evans' ownership here. A lack of care, not being smart, it's a shambles.

Not sure about how much debt we were when entering administration but halfway through administration we had debts of £54 million

Imagine if Man United actually went into administration? Surely the potential reality of one of biggest clubs in the world going bust be the biggest story in the sport on financial terms

They won’t go bust. If people are bidding £5bn to buy the club, the debt is only 20% of that. I suspect it’ll be sold for a lot more than £5bn anyway. This is chump change to the Saudis and co who are buying up sport.

I appreciate the numbers are eye watering but for one of the biggest sport brand names in the world is it that much?

I don't have to imagine, I am one.

Yeah, you're right, it's not great. Cost of living. War and shocking inhumanity on the News every night.

Still, could be worse. I have never been queer-bashed, or had racist graffiti daubed on my house, or been refused accommodation because of my skin colour.

It would be an interesting case study for a forensic accountant; find out how much the Glazer family has trousered, how much related to the original purchase (IIRC there was a mutter about this at the time), what transfer payments are owed and time frame for payments.

At some point the debt could become unserviceable or they have to make a policy decision to limit their exposure in the transfer market making it (probably?) harder to compete. Failure to qualify for CL would impact both income and potential transfer values of players and the cycle of decline (known as an "Evans Era" ) sets in.

Manure were always a profitable club so, despite debt, should have some cash reserves but they tend to dwindle rapidly.

Like any company that goes into administration, the losers will be small company suppliers with little or no accounting provision for bad debt, and can be a domino effect.
