Styles, rather than specific producers / vintages, seems to be the approach here. 5 picks that I have really enjoyed in recent months include:
1 Grüner Veltliner from Austria (taste acquired during ITFC preseason!)
2 Spätburgender (German pinot noir), much enjoyed in wine festivals during the Sept International break - warning that I only took to about half of those tried, and price wasn't a reliable indicator of quality.
3 There is a pink prosecco that Wines of Interest sell; they had it at their tasting last week. It is utterly strawberry, but then explodes into a sherbety dryness.
4 Picpoul de Pinet, dry white from the South of France, always seems to punch well above its price point.
5 Any Loire red, but St Nicolas de Bourgeuil maybe shades it over Chinon. Although red, these must be served at around 12 degrees c. | | | |
