Boxing day hunts 19:23 - Dec 8 with 2546 views | gtsb1966 | As a lot of Town fans live in rural communities does this heinous tradition still go ahead on boxing day. I Know it does in Hadleigh but thankfully not in Sudbury. I was hoping that since the fox hunting ban in 2004 the 'meets' would've died off. Is this the case?

Boxing day hunts on 20:31 - Dec 8 with 2398 views | MattinLondon | From what I’ve read, a lot of the ‘fake’ hunts (draghunting) frequently pick up the scent of a real fox and then proceed to accidentally rip it apart for their amusement. Fox hunting is barbaric, anyone who participates in it is guilty of barbarism. I didn’t answer your original question - sorry.

Boxing day hunts on 12:08 - Dec 9 with 1983 views | ElephantintheRoom | Yes it’s the highlight of the year and because Sky dont cover it you know when it will be on. Not my cup of tea - but many non-posh people join in the fun. In my humble opinion, while not very nice for foxes it does far less damage to the environment and fluffy and feathered inhabitants than the millions of pheasants dumped in the countryside and shot by people in tweed

Boxing day hunts on 14:03 - Dec 9 with 1855 views | BlueNomad | Where to begin! Hunting is the “sport” for those who would either have volunteered to be axeman or at the front for public executions. The fact that they seek to chase terrified animals to the point of exhaustion before tearing them apart is a sickening throwback to Norman times. It goes beyond that though. They employ people who are utterly reliant on them for a job and a house. When there is a (rare) conviction it is the employed huntsman who takes the fall, not the Master(s), most of whom are “respected” members of society with a variety of bestowed titles between them. The terrier men not only bag up foxes and put them in a badger sett the day before and then dig them out for the chase but tear about on quad bikes assaulting and intimidating people. Doesn’t that sound like a mafia? Hounds run about on busy roads causing chaos. They frighten livestock, encroach into gardens where pets have been killed, while the people commit public order and road traffic offences at most events. They only publish in advance the occasions when they are “trail” hunting. They are out today, but it’s far too wet to lay their trail of fox urine. You can work out where that comes from, foxes they keep in captivity, ready for bagging when it’s their time to die. Speaking of which, don’t assume injured hounds are treated by a vet, they are shot. All this is accompanied by massive arrogance almost twenty years after hunting with dogs became illegal. To finish with, if you speak out you are likely to have a dead rabbit nailed to your gate! You might gather - I hate hunting and everything associated with it. [Post edited 9 Dec 2023 15:21]

Much more recent than the Normans, they hunted game to be eaten, not just for sport. Hunting foxes began in the late 17th century, partly due to the collapse of the Forest Laws and some of the great estates during the Commonwealth. Gave them something to chase and was theoretically vermin control in an era when farming was more marginal than it became in the following couple of hundred years. Like point-to-point racing, it was also a good way of honing the skills of horsed cavalrymen. Which ceased to be a thing in the mid 20th century.
