Tech news: would you let this man put a chip in your brain on 10:07 - Jan 30 with 1176 views | bluelagos | The downsides of being chipped are pretty obvious. Wondering what the upsides would be? Helping an elderly person who had fallen with an emergency call made including their location? Finding a dementia suffering relative who had disappeared/got lost? Any others? Shed loads of ethical concerns too.

Simply put, it would be useful in any situation where being able to communicate with a computer just by thinking would be advantageous. So people who are paralysed would be a prime example. But I wouldn't let anything Musk touches anywhere near by brain.

There is a school of thought that sees the evolution of humans becoming integrated with technology. Many people seem to have a mobile phone stuck to their hand these days, so perhaps not that far fetched!

I think they're looking at doing more active things than just acting as beacons aren't they? Like making an elderly person reconfigure themselves after a fall to walk out on their hands, or causing the lost dementia sufferer to hijack and re-program a driverless car to take them to Starbucks.

Yeah, can see MND sufferers being able to communicate more effectively then. Suspect in 100 years time this will all be quite normalised - but thankfully we'll all be long gone by then.
