A real success story, their vaccine was cheaper and easier to store and certainly saved many lives: "According to independent estimates, over 6.5 million lives were saved in the first year of use alone." SB

Yes they did. In very rare cases there is a risk of death but it is the immune systems' inappropriate response to Covid=19. Getting the disease has much higher risk of the same outcome. The company is facing a class action lawsuit in the UK brought by law firm Leigh Day on behalf of 51 claimants due to injuries allegedly caused by Vaxzevria. Twelve of the claimants are acting on behalf of a loved one who died following a complication allegedly caused by the vaccine, related to the blood clotting issue. Asked about the court case, an AstraZeneca spokesperson said: “Our sympathy goes out to anyone who has lost loved ones or reported health problems… From the body of evidence in clinical trials and real-world data, the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine has continuously been shown to have an acceptable safety profile, and regulators around the world consistently state that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks of extremely rare potential side-effects.” AstraZeneca admitted in one of the court documents in February that Covishield can "in very rare cases, cause TTS or Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome". Experts expect all “monovalent” vaccines, that deal with the original Covid strain, to be withdrawn and replaced with updated vaccines that deal with a wide range of strains.

Important word in that sentence is "can". Any vaccine "can" have side-effects but they are very low probability events and thus the vast majority are better served getting the protection a vaccine can provide. SB

It was a bold but successful decision to give as many one shots at a time with a longer period between second shots rather than fewer one shots and a shorter timeframe for the second. Was it France or a Germany who withdrew AZ claiming it was dangerous?

In much the same way as driving a car *can* have serious side effects.
