Brighton Transfers - last 3 years 13:46 - May 21 with 3050 views | victorysquad | 2023/2024: Total: £61,800,000 (£23m MF, £16m GK, £14.5m DF, £7.8m DF) 2022/2023: Total: £56,000,000 (£30m MF, £15m DF, £7.5M MF, £3.5m MF) 2021/2022: Total: £55,000,000 (£20m MF, £15m DF, £9.5m MF, £6m MF, £4.2m GK) Interesting, none of the big money has gone on strikers. I wonder if their transfer policy is based around 'strikers cost a lot of money' and the 'value' is in buying top notch GF, DF and MF. [Post edited 21 May 2024 13:58]

Bit like England's squad list.

Brighton Transfers - last 3 years on 14:54 - May 21 with 2599 views | Pinewoodblue | Money spent is only half the story. Thanks to player sales Brighton made a profit of over £120m in 2022/23 and over £20m the year before. Perhaps their current manager wouldn’t have walked if had received more backing to develop the squad.

Ah - Soccerbase data. He's a forward.

It's not just the selling, it's the recruitment that encouraged DeZerbi to walk; Brighton have a data-led transfer policy at above management level, and DeZerbi wanted more authority on the players the club sign. You can guarantee in the past few transfer windows we would have had interest in our players; Ashton has hinted that any offers would have been run past KMcK for his opinion. Likewise, we no doubt have data-led metrics we use when signing players, but KMcK will have the final say based on whether the players suit his style of play, have good character, and are a good fit for the squad. Obviously, this is a lot easier to sustain lower down the football pyramid; once you get in a position where you can make 8-figure transfers, unless you're one of the Top 6 clubs who can throw money around, every signing has to be looked at as an "asset" as well as a player, and clubs who do this correctly (like Brighton) stand a better chance of long term success.
