England are awful. Buffet bowling and people like Bairstow who was once a good player fumbling about with the bat. Mostly an old team with too many players past their best. Australia have been excellent. Could well win the tournament.

They've learnt from our mistakes. Pace off the ball, not bowling floaty off-breaks against left handers so they can hit towards the short boundary. Ho-hum. It was always more of a free-hit against the Aussies in a group round robin situation with two teams going through. It's that wash out vs the Scots that may be costly.

Australia played really well. Batted strongly and backed up by their bowlers and field. Long tournament and still confident of getting through. That was a very polished performance by the tournaments 2nd favorites. They ain't playing like that every game and we will grow into it.

More questions will be asked about the hapless Mott as white ball coach. At the time, I did think appointing someone whose prime experience was coaching the Australian women's team was a huge risk. Buttler's role as white ball captain will also come under scrutiny. England bowled poorly in the abandoned game against Scotland & dreadful powerplay bowling yesterday put England in a tough position. Salt & Buttler made a good start, but as soon as they got out, the new batsmen proved near incapable of scoring at more than a run a ball.

You mean the Aussie women's team that's been the most successful in the world for many years? That Aussie women's team?

Yes. Rather like the optimists on here who wanted Emma Hayes as a possible successor to McKenna, you have to realise that, although they play by the same rules, elite men's & women's sports are at totally different levels.

Weren't our last tournament successes under Mott? If so, he's clearly done a good job but probably outstayed his welcome. He should have gone after the 50 over debacle.

Since Mott took over, England have played 7 ODI series, winning 2 (including 1 over Bangladesh) drawn 1 & lost 4. While England did win the 20/20 World Cup in November 2022 (only 6 months after Mott was appointed) under his regime, England have played 8 20/20 series, winning 3, losing 4 & drawing 1. Given Mott inherited the #1 ranked white ball team, these a pretty damning results. The common, depressing thread in the 50 over & current 20 over World Cup has been the complete lack of tactical flexibility. Buttler's role as captain has also to be questioned.
