The Spanish goalie came off his line before the ball was hit... 18:43 - Jun 15 with 1807 views | tonybied | ...didn't he? Should've been a retake, surely.

Encroachment by Croatia players.

Nope. Left foot was behind the line. Very good keeping. I thought he’d come off his line in real time, but the replay showed he hadn’t. It was all a bit of a mess though. Croatia should have just scored. I reckon they were trying to wing a red card though instead.

The Spanish goalie came off his line before the ball was hit... on 18:56 - Jun 15 with 1683 views | BarcaBlue | Really odd passage of play, assume the Croatian was touched by Rodri before diving, but then Rodri should have got a red as he wasn't trying to play the ball. Then they penalise Croatia for encroachment but ignored Simon coming off his line.

Rodri touched him for sure, is that an automatic penalty now though? Why on earth didn’t he just stay on his feet and put it in the open goal? | | | | Login to get fewer ads
The Spanish goalie came off his line before the ball was hit... on 19:21 - Jun 15 with 1608 views | Swansea_Blue | All about the left foot innit (not the best angle, bug presumably VAR would have been all over it otherwise)

His left foot isn't planted though, does that not matter?

Don’t think it matters. I could be wrong though. I’d look it up but have got to go and feed the clan!

You are correct. The law says "When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line."

OK so the keeper only needs to keep one foot on the line then ?
The Spanish goalie came off his line before the ball was hit... on 19:42 - Jun 15 with 1487 views | VanSaParody | Should never have been a pen anyway 1) Croatian should have taken the light touch on the back of his leg & stayed on his feet as he'd already gone round the keeper & just needed to roll it into an empty net 2) that he felt the light touch, & then threw himself to the ground, was an obvious attempt to not just get a pen, but to get a fellow pro sent off - why didn't he just roll it into the empty net? Cowardice, I'd say 3) why did the combo of the on field officials & VAR not come to the correct decision there, & NOT award a pen, & give the diving, cheating Croatian at least a yellow, or better a straight red for the most cowardly cheating you can see in football Never mind, justice was done [Post edited 15 Jun 2024 19:44]

doesn' t double jeopardy still apply anyway i.e if it's a pen then the offender is only booked not sent off? Anyway in my book, that is a not a penalty and is a booking for simulation. It was such a light touch, hardly a foul.
