Everton re loaning a championship player 13:08 - Jun 23 with 2712 views | FrimleyBlue | Now. There's nothing wrong with that signing. After all it's just one club loaning a player. However is it just me that finds it in some way strange that a prem club not only loans a champ player but re-loans him for a 2nd term.. just feels like they should either have to cough up the funds to buy him or move on. Other way round it's normal I guess. It might just be that I've never actually read of a higher club loaning from a smaller one let alone the same player. Just seems odd.

Everton re loaning a championship player on 13:15 - Jun 23 with 2604 views | MJallday | Unfortunately the key point here is that Everton as a club doesn’t have a pot to p1ss in They’re broke , (actually thats not strictly true, their owners arnt broke but they’re refusing to put money in - and are trying to offload the club but can’t - see 777 deal which has collapsed) But same result. They’ve got no cash, they’re about to be smacked with another PTS deduction due to financial mismanagement and have flirted with relegation for 3 or so years It’s quite a bad situation tbh [Post edited 23 Jun 2024 13:16]

Harrison is a PL quality player, and Everton are able to get him for a song - suits everyone to re loan except Leeds who gave him a silly contract

Everton re loaning a championship player on 13:24 - Jun 23 with 2486 views | ParisBlue | As I understand it a number of Leeds players had loan release clauses which on relegation allows another team to loan them so long as they pay 100% of their salary. I guess this way they don't have to pay a transfer fee. Harrison's contract runs till 2028 so this could run for another couple of seasons. Hence the exodus last season. Gnoto was one of the few without that clause hence he couldn't get out.

I guess it suits Leeds too, as they offload the salary (presumably) while retaining their assets for when/if they go back up?

It does unless I guess you need to sell to offset a debt you owe this season, then that causes issues. From the limited info I've seen on Leeds the previous owners did strange deals where players could leave on loan, rather than build in a wage reduction as a result of relegation. Looks like some of their players rather than returning to Leeds this season will be allowed to move for minimal fee, just to get their prem wages off the books.

If Leeds could get promoted without them, it would make some sense too. The player continues getting Premier League experience and has their wages paid by the Premier Club but is back at Leeds for their return to the Premier League. Of course, when they fail to get promoted it isn't quite so good for them. From the player perspective, they continue to get Premier League football and are not tied to a club who may well be relegated next season.

It’s ok Leeds got promoted at least 3 times last season

I really don't like the loan system. It allows big clubs to stockpile players and have them on a merry go round of loans from which they profit while other teams develop them. I would enforce squad sizes properly, with a limit that included all players including young ones. And if that did nothing, I would probably limit the number of players one club could have out of loan, and limit the number of players that a club could loan in to maybe 1 or 2. But what I don't get is that if you have nothing against the loan system (fair enough) why do you think Everton should not be allowed to do what they are doing rather than purchasing the player? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The flip side of the loan system is that all the risk is with the loaning club. If the player does not develop or gets injured or behaves in a manner that makes them unavailable to play, the loaning club is left with them and no prospect of selling or loaning them. There are plenty of ways around it too with options to buy back and feeder clubs and the likes.
