Derek was a EADT sorts journalist who reported on Town. 19 years ago under Joe Royle Town were top of the league in March by quite a few points and a game in hand Derek then came out with his now famous quote "its time to get your deckchairs out and relax and enjoy the rest of the season as Town are now all but promoted" Town then done a Sheff Wed from a couple of years ago and finished 3rd in the play off places and had to play West Ham who just squeezed in at 6thI think they were around 17 pts better off then the Hammers Town then lost to West Ham over two legs. Hence Derek has been called Deckchair Derek ever since! |  | | |
