Potentially a great result for Reform 22:59 - Jul 4 with 2155 viewsMidlandBlue25

Some points if the poll is accurate
• Fantastic result for Labour
• Bad result for the Tories but given some polls prior to the election, they’ll be a bit of relief.
• Terrible night for the SNP
• Underwhelming imo for the Lib Dems, if they were more in the media prior to the election I think they could’ve got more
• Fantastic result for Reform, I only thought they would’ve got 1 seat to be honest. But we’ll see how accurate that is.
• Underwhelming for the Greens

George Galloway also may lose his seat

Galloway would be a plus. Horrendous to think we’ve got significant numbers of people falling for Farage’s shtick.

I think the exit poll will be wrong for Reform. Its because they will get a large amount of the national vote its overplaying the chances it has of winning seats i think.

I'd be shocked if they won more than 5 seats an expect it to be 3 max

Yes 13 seems a lot. But they are track to get more votes than the Lib Dems.

Hope so. They’re a sh*t stain on what isn’t exactly the cleanest business in the first place.

He’s fighting the establishment, don’t you know. The Dulwich College educated, 17 years commodity trader in the City of London, 21 year MEP, Chairman and Leader of UKIP, President and Leader of Reform and Trump lobbyist is standing up for the common man against the elite and political establishment.

It’s really hard not to say ‘how fkn stupid have you got to be to fall for it’, but that’s not helpful. People need a reason to not be lured by his lies and silver tongue. They need an improvement in their circumstances and some hope. Immigrants don’t even come into it, as most people have no problem with immigrants they actually meet and know.

No pressure Labour…

I think also that a lot of conspiracy is created when MPs avoid questions and simply call people names. Like I’ve seen people ask some good questions that probably have a logically and good answer, but instead of answering MPs have shut them down.

Don’t be. I reckon this will be the large story of the night. FPTP will see Tory into second, but the %age of the vote for Reform will be large. Far larger than their seats suggest. There will be a lot of shy Reform voters (and why wouldn’t you be embarrassed, given what they’re about and attract?).

It just shows how fkd the UK is and the scale of the challenge facing the poor sods taking over next.

yea, sadly I think you're right. I was at a school event tonight and the number of people proudly saying how they'd voted Reform genuinely shocked me. Especially as they were saying it to my immigrant wife, seemingly oblivious to why that might bother her a bit!

in fact they didn't even seem to know why they were voting for them. The general feeling seemed to be "Definitely not voting conservative and definitely not voting Labour" so Reform are the only other option if you believe the media coverage. Poor old lib dems.

I worry we’ll go the same way as France have gone this year. It’s a cry for help. It has to be, as the Reform promises are not achievable (zero net immigration - lol; no NHS waiting lists - lol; ‘stop the boats’ - lol). They’re not a viable government in waiting, so let’s hope people get distracted by something better before the next election.

Scary early results.

Labour landslide on the lowest percentage for many elections and the rise of the far right.

Starmer got his work cut out next 5 years.

America too. The far-right aren't even pretending to be anything else any more and they're getting more votes than ever.

History doesn't repeat itself but it often rhymes, said someone much better with words than me.

The good news is that 5 years is a long time in politics. On another thread tonight we were talking about Labour’s promise to appoint 6,000 more teachers. They could do that before Xmas, as the pipeline of talent is coming through universities each year. The NHS harder, as the numbers of trainee doctors and nurses is capped, so that’s a 3-5 year project for any homegrown employees.

I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised at what a grown up government can do once it sets it mind to it. We’ve had what’s been widely called a zombie government for years. They’ve either been distracted by Brexit, distracted by culture wars, distracted by campaigning rather than governing, distracted by party infighting and leadership changes, and, lately, just giving up and not turning up.

It is a great result for Labour ... let's hope that plays out as being good for the country.

There is very little relief for the Tories unless you are one of those who has hung on to their seat. Their headache is how do they recover support? Reform will mop up the xenophobic and pro-Brexit vote. How long did they think they could dupe people into the lie they were dealing with either issue? Their only hope is that Labour shifts to the left and they can fill a void. Unless that happens they will remain divided on how to appeal.

The minor parties are very affected by the form of voting we enact. It should be noted that Reform are amongst them. They are as relevant as Plaid Cymry but that is twice as relevant as the Green Party. A more representative system would surely see them and LibDem get more votes but I am not sure it would increase the votes for Reform. It would increase their influence, though.

A worrying trend across Europe.

One of the biggest jobs labour has is to somehow address that population of voters, although I suspect they’ll shift back to Tory in a few years time to compete with Labour for power.

Important not to disregard or ignore the views of such a significant amount of people. Understanding the why is really important and it’s not as straightforward as boats at Dover, but clearly linked to some of the issues discussed at length in the French process.
