Would be a great move for him - hoping he gets it!

Surely we would only sell him. If we loan him, we're essentially letting him go on a free transfer as his contract expires next summer.

Loans aren't free, clubs pay to take players on loan.

Sure but what's the point, might as well make the loan fee the transfer fee.

Middlesboro wont be paying all his wages. We’ll be paying a cut.

Presumably if Boro wanted him on a 2-3 year contract they could negotiate that with us, but im guessing they don’t for some reason.

Even more reason not to loan him. Although don't really see how there would be a loan fee and we pay part of his wages, as one just offsets the other, so its either one or the other or neither but not both, if that makes sense.

But there might not be a permanent offer on the table elsewhere.

A loan with a recall in January makes sense if we get injures too.

I would think there would be interest in Edmundson for someone to pay a fee, but if not then, as I suspect will be the case with Ladapo, there will be a mutual consent contract cancellation and he will be free to join anyone.

A loan is just pointless, can't see how we'd want him back in January if he's not good enough now, we'd buy someone else.

Why would we cancel his contract if we had a loan option available? We'd have to pay up his wages for the year.

Edmundson isn't good enough based on what we have now. If 1-2 get injured, he becomes a squad back-up option. We can't just 'buy someone else' all the time.

Thinking about it, I will concede there is a situation where a loan deal is the only option under a certain set of circumstances.

This would be if
- there is only one club want him
- they pay no loan fee
- they pay only part of his wages which would be considerably lower than the wages Edmundson would insist on for a permanent deal.
- the part of the wages ITFC pay would still cost us less than mutual consent.
- Edmundson would prefer to sit here and be paid for doing nothing than accept a lower wage on a permanent deal

I just think loan deals are pointless when a player isn't coming back, loans should be for developing players in lower divisions to return as better players.
