Replacing in-built freezer unit, seeking TWTD hive mind advice pls 14:23 - Sep 11 with 1783 views | Ryorry | Is it better to try & find a replacement of exactly the same size (or a bit smaller)? Or to rip all the cupboarding out & put a freestanding frig/freezer in instead? The room is a living kitchen, so looks do matter a bit, noise levels even more so. Problem is the freezer door seems to have buckled over the years (was in situ when I bought the place 11 years ago, so could be quite ancient - it's an Ikea product, that looks quite an ideosyncratic size). Thanks if you can help.

Replacing in-built freezer unit, seeking TWTD hive mind advice pls on 14:30 - Sep 11 with 1730 views | mellowblue | you are best to buy like for like size wise if you are going to use the existing doors, otherwise it might be troublesome opening the door, if they do not line up properly. I am guessing IKEA are just putting their brand on someone's product and I would have thought those products would be made to fit the standard widths of cabinet doors 600mm, 500mm etc.

Perhaps demolish the house and start again? Or find a kitchen renovation specialist. They have all kinds of tricks to work with existing furniture and can match and repair stuff.

Replacing in-built freezer unit, seeking TWTD hive mind advice pls on 15:51 - Sep 11 with 1540 views | Help | I think you answered your own question How much less hassle in the first place is a freestanding?. How restricted are you on options to find a replacement that will fit the existing gap.

Replacing in-built freezer unit, seeking TWTD hive mind advice pls on 21:48 - Sep 11 with 1289 views | Freddies_Ears | I had exactly this problem. It turned out my fitted freezer was a very unusual size. Option was (1) to rip the whole out, get a new FF, despite the fridge being OK, and pay to have a bit of a redesign of kitchen cupboards, or (2) pay over the odds to replace the oddly-sized fitted freezer. The legend that is Mick Stockwell had done my kitchen - brilliantly well, may I add- and was able to advise re hassle, mess and cost of (1). So I went to Hughes, who had a phone-book-sized directory of available freezers; precisely one was the right dimensions. I bought it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Replacing in-built freezer unit, seeking TWTD hive mind advice pls on 00:28 - Sep 12 with 1221 views | WicklowBlue | Do IKEA do a like for like replacement? Happy to be corrected but I've heard that IKEA size things their own way to lock customers in to their ranges. Without knowing your setup I'd look to replace the appliance first before ripping out the cabinetry. But that depends on whether you like the current layout My integrated fridge/freezer died several years ago, I replaced it easy enough with a different make. Granted it was a standard size/fitting.

Replacing in-built freezer unit, seeking TWTD hive mind advice pls on 11:12 - Sep 12 with 1030 views | PassionNotAnger | One additional factor to getting accurate size comparison is the door fixings, I had a stupid 70/30 split which wasn’t that common, ordered one and it was delivered but I ordered the “wrong” fixing type, can’t remember which way round it was but one was sliding door and other was fixed so had to be returned. Best advice is to take a picture of how current one is fixed (hinges) take measurements and go to curry’s or Bennetts, they can tell you which size appliances will fit with right fixings, and either buy from them or take info and purchase from AO.com who were a lot cheaper for what I needed
