I see the town ladies are winning again. 20:12 - Sep 25 with 2403 views | FrimleyBlue | Can someone remind me what the promotion rules are as I remember it wasn't a simple case of win the league and you're up. And also.. how far away from the arsenal ladies league are they?

That's a recent change I think, it was a playoff thing previously.

It was a play off between the winners of the north and south leagues for a place in the Championship. Now the winners of both leagues get promoted. That has been in place for one or possibly two seasons now. [Post edited 25 Sep 2024 20:28]

They've not said much, but the club looks to have increased the budget this season. I've heard a number of opposition managers refer to us as full-time. At that level money talks. Anything less that top spot and promotion would surely be considered a huge failure. 4-0 now, just before half-time.

Most of the players we signed in the summer have either Championship or even WSL experience. Tbh only game we haven't won was one if those slightly ridiculous ones where we were incredibly dominant and somehow drew. Think we will win the league at a canter most likely, already played and beat a couple of the teams we need to.

It's always difficult when there is only one spot. Not much margin for error! Luckily we've started well. We've also now played 4 of the top 6 and have scored 13 and conceded just 2 in those games. 3 points back at the moment, but with 2 games in hand and having had arguably the toughest opening matches. Key is to be consistent and keep getting the results. Last year Hashtag United got nearly 2.4 points per game and still missed out by 9 points while the year before town missed out on goal difference despite also doing 2.4 points per game. In most seasons losing more than a single game in 22 means you won't get promoted. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We've been full time for a few years but definitely we have invested this year. We recruited two players who won the championship with Palace last season, and we've picked up some other higher level players too, to augment our existing players, some of whom could easily play higher level. Peskett for one.

To be pedantic, we have been professional, but not ft, for a while. Gradually, we have increased the pro element. This season is a big step change, as you noted. Some of the change arises from our reaction to having the regional Academy removed by the powers-that-be. That coincided, fortunately, with our new ownership & management wanting to develop the women's team (we could have stayed level 3 / 4 and saved a few £. We are giving it a real go this year, but still with many young players - plus Tash- who we have seen develop over the years. The budget to compete, even mid-table, in the Championship, is another level again. But Ashton & Werhun know what it takes, from their Bristol City experience. The standard is improving massively, though, every year.

It's noticeable that teams that historically have been at higher level but aren't associated to a big club are dropping down, e.g Lewes, Crawley, Bridgwater (formally Yeovil). Meanwhile Newcastle and others are moving up. To keep progressing we need to get-up this year, else we risk the boat being missed. We were quite a way off last year and ended the season with loanees and a small squad, presumably in lieu of changes this summer. The fact we kept the better players whereas previous summers we'd lost a few to higher divisions backs this up. Would be nice to get another promotion...

Spot on. I think Newcastle went ft to buy a promotion, which remains, just, an option but maybe not for long. Top two leagues are all ft, and the budget needed to compete in the Championship is a low'Lg1 / decent Lg 2 at in the men's game. So, peanuts to an established PL side but massive for any EFL club...

Its early days but looking at the Championship it looks like a long hard season for Portsmouth, who waltzed this division last year. Its a big step up.
