Jackson & Harness 21:11 - Nov 27 with 2674 views | Swansea_Blue | Got them on the telly box tonight. Jackson’s just missed an open goal after keeper saved a cushioned volley from Harness. Love them both, but you can see why we moved them on. And then some.

I do wonder sometimes if what we did last season is having an expectation vs reality conflict with teams who go up from League One. The three incumbents this year are absolutely miles from the side we had.

As were Plymouth and Weds last season too. What we did was incredible, and I suspect you're right in terms of that setting unrealistic expectations.

Haha imagine thinking that Paul Warne is capable of doing what McKenna done.

They rallied in the second half, but could have been there until Saturday and not created anything. It’s no good them thinking they can repeat what we did. We are unique

Jackson & Harness on 22:10 - Nov 27 with 2285 views | Churchman | I watched the second half. Yes, good attempt from Harness and a howler of a miss from Jackson. I saw a post this week suggesting it’d have been better to keep Kayden. Love the bloke, will always be part of the promotion teams, served the club well, great club man etc. However it was right for him to move on. Same with Marcus H. Derby huffed and puffed but the difference between PL and Championship is huge. Every aspect of it. Thought the Derby CH Cashin did well. One of their better players but could he play in the PL? No.

I don’t think Warne’s style of play is conducive to top end championship teams anymore in general unless they take over a well funded club and can get a load of those types of players. I don’t think better quality players want to play that way and fans of bigger clubs don’t want to see it either for long periods of time.

In the tedium of pre-season I was still in the habit of reading articles and listening to podcasts about the Championship (to be honest I still haven't found a good Premier League podcast like The Second Tier or Not the Top 20). There was a lot of hype about Portsmouth and the potential of them 'doing an Ipswich' off the back of 97 points, only losing 5 games and having a new young coach pulling up trees in his first full season. The Portsmouth manager regularly quoted Ipswich as the role model for what they were hoping to do in the Championship... ...and they are currently bottom and looking destined to go back down. What I think is often overlooked in the 'doing an Ipswich' is we were promoted off the back of a 19 game unbeaten run where we had scored 52 goals and conceded 7 and were in a promotion battle until the last game - the all important 'momentum'. Then we go and win our first game in the Championship away to Sunderland and the rest is history. In League 1, Portsmouth had a great run post Christmas, but promotion was secured by easter and they only won three of their last seven games. They've then had their top scorer from last season (Colby Bishop) out of action for most of this season. What we did last season was incredible and I suspect it will be a long time before it's repeated. [Post edited 28 Nov 2024 5:52]

Although if we needed a back up to the back up striker, both Harness and particularly Jackson could press harder and more effectively than AAH.

I have to disagree with that regarding KD. Maybe he had an off day but he wasn’t great last night. Ineffectual sums it up. His asset is pace and he’s able to do what’s asked of him. But most PL teams have pace, physicality and size. There’s no way Jackson could compete with that. In the 8 mins or whatever he had on Sunday, AAH caused a little bit of pain and mayhem to United’s back line and has a bit about him. But we need somebody here and now as a back up and I’d actually like to see AAH at say Derby on loan playing regularly. They mentioned they tried to get him last night. Harness? I like him. Good player. But he is not a forward or good enough for this level. McKenna was right in letting MH and KD go, great characters though they are.

Sorry Church, but AAH caused no pain at all to utd, he literally was passing the ball to them and then got in chappers way for an easy goal. He in fact was helping them by sitting off them as he couldn't run, thankfully tho they were sht and didn't actually do anything when it. But absolutely Jackson or Harness would bounce off prem players, but their pace alone would have caused at least a bit of pressure on a tiring backline. I do agree that both players were correct in leaving the club, but IF the option was there to swap either for the current version of AAH we currently have then it's an easy swap but solely because the bloke can't run. I do feel for AAH, it's similar to Ahadme where we never got to see him without injury. When you watch his youtube videos, the speed and directness he had, we've yet to see.

To be fair, I think it's probably distorted a lot of expectations in the championship. A fair amount of owners probably turned to their manager and said 'hang on, you said this wasn't possible?' And of the back of that, there have been some questionable decisions. Hull firing Liam Rosenior for instance. That went well.
