and the amount of tourist fans, even at the opposition hone grounds is actually quite incredible. The soul of many of the 'top' teams is ripped out by success which makes the likes of us quite unique in our authenticity. This is one thing we really cannot allow to be ebbed away.

Agreed.
In terms of money alone it’s not hard to see why the top clubs encourage tourists at the expense of locals. A tourist will spend hundreds in the club shop whereas a local will just turn-up, possibly buy a couple of drinks and then go home.

But, in the long term this might well be disastrous- locals growing up with no links to its nearest football club can’t be a good thing.

Agree. Tourists have no problem paying £100+ for a resale ticket from dodgytickets.com. Comparable entertainment is west end shows or other expensive experiences (NFL etc).

This creates an enormous resale market that in reality takes tickets out of genuine, long term fan hands and cash into the hands of people who set up unscrupulous websites.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Noticed that on Griffin’s vlog from yesterday; foreign Chelsea fans with their half and half scarves who probably paid way over the odds for their tickets. Sad what the game has become.

I was sitting among the arsenal fans last week and I’d say 50% of them were tourists. A bit of polite cheering when they scor3.

The middle tier seemed to be full of them, even above those above us in the away section; overloaded with new gear and bags from the club shop.

"Full of them' ?! what a small minded thing say. Nothing wrong with people enjoying themselves and buying stuff from the club shop and sampling a different culture.

I don't mind tourists coming to watch games at all.

I've been to games all over Europe, so don't mind in the slightest if someone wants to come here.

I do think clubs should do more to stamp out the reselling of tickets on the third-party sites though.

When I turned round to taunt the spurs fans behind us at the end of the game, I’d say 70% in the seats and boxes were tourists, in fact a lot of the Korean fans where applauding us when the team came over and probably didn’t have a clue who spurs were apart from Son. Clubs like West Ham and spurs getting 50-60k crowds having built large stadiums need to fill the corporate boxes and seating so it’s inevitable sadly.

There’s a difference between a handful of tourists in a ground and tiers full of them, which seemed the case at Arsenal. Fine if you want tourist football but personally I prefer two sets of partisan fans at a game. If you think that’s small minded then you’re just another part of the problem with football nowadays.
