8 players for maximum 3 positions. Possibly only 2 positions, if we play 5 at the back as we have recently. In some ways it feels obscene. But... 3 of them currently injured. And they are the positions we almost always refresh with subs. So, it makes sense I suppose. Different world to Mariner at No 9. With Brazil and Gates behind him and O'Callaghan as their back-up !!

Indeed. And it could get even more competitive should Ben Doak sign in this window as well. If that happened I suspect there may be one or two depart on loan.

Not sure why. They’ve been more productive than Ogbene and Clarke. They’ve both done pretty well in the PL - Chaplin more than Burns.

His competition is Johnson. Options (not necessarily pecking order): #9: Delap, Hirst, New signing (possibly loan) Inverted Left 10: Philogene, Szmodics, Clarke, Chaplin, Broadhead Inverted Right 10: Hutchinson, Philogene, Szmodics, Chaplin 8 / Left CM: Cajuste, Taylor, Phillips 6: Right CM: Morsy, Phillips, Godfrey Right sided let’s call it wing back: Burns, Johnson, Axel (would operate more defensively) Left sided: Davis, Townsend Back 3: Greaves, O’Shea, Godfrey, Burgess, Woolfy, Axel Obviously a lot of duplicates above but trying to demonstrate the versatility.
So what's the pecking order for places behind the striker now? on 08:15 - Jan 10 with 1143 views | GlasgowBlue | You need to divide them between left 10 and right 10. Also Burns and Ogbene play more on the wide right than abs a 10. Clarke also plays a more wide role. Left Philogene Szmodics Broadhead Right Hutchinson Chaplin Despite his excellent recent form, Broadhead looks vulnerable to me in this window. Although this may depend on how long Hutchinson is out. If it’s a couple of months then Philogene will fill in as a right 10.

A wee bit harsh on Ogbene - he’s been out with a season ending achilles injury since October! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Similar to the second half of last season, I think we will just have a squad loaded up with attacking options we can deploy. Can't see anyone leaving. You can bet 2/3 are going to be injured or have knocks each week. We can quite easily free up squad space for up to 5 signings. Harry Clarke out on loan, Ogbene deregistered, Al-Hamadi on loan, Luongo, and from what I heard we want to send Slicker out and bring in a temporary U21 keeper who won't count towards the limit.
