Mosquito-borne viruses in the UK 08:23 - May 15 with 855 viewsStokieBlue

Usutu virus which affects Blackbirds is now in Britain. It was first detected after a heatwave in 2020 and has spread across southern England since then.

It's a real-world example of how climate change could bring diseases to the UK through vectors like mosquitos which wouldn't have been found here previously.

How soon will we get the really big spiders they have in Australia? Just want to make sure I'm dead before then.

Have we got Brown Recluses now? Last I heard we didn't, but then I'm hardly browsing Arachnid Monthly regularly.

False widows certainly can give a painful nip, although thankfully i've not experienced it. My garage is full of the bloody things though.

I'm looking out for when Cordyceps adapts to be able to survive in a warmer environment, for example in a human host. Then the fun begins.
