Tactical fouls 12:27 - May 19 with 759 views | itfc48 | We've been a bit rubbish at them this year haven't we? First goal yesterday, any other team would have chopped down Justin 40 yards out and taken the yellow. I can think of numerous other goals this season where we had the opportunity to stop the breakaway further up the pitch with a cheeky pull back or clip.
Tactical fouls on 12:48 - May 19 with 674 views | Linners | Sadly we have to get better at our professional cheating - both with fouling and diving. It's a miserable reality but Ayew yesterday was miles better at going to ground convincingly than Omari was despite the latter being kicked to bits.
Tactical fouls on 12:49 - May 19 with 669 views | bournemouthblue | that's probably a reflection on our midfielder not being quick enough when caught in transition On the goal itself, Greaves positioning was poor, he gets sucked towards the man, allowing space for Vardy, if he holds his position, Vardy has no where to run I thought the game did show the contrast between Hirst who never really linked up with our attacking three and Vardy who's movement and lay offs etc were a lot more effective

Tactical fouls on 13:09 - May 19 with 610 views | stonojnr | Our experience this season has been it ends in red not yellow soon after. And the game is gone down to 10, so we're reluctant now to get yellows in tackles, because we can't trust the ref won't give a 2nd yellow for something stupid. Classic example at the FA cup final, Man city player falls over claims a foul in the penalty box, no card, not even a talking to, yet we've picked up bookings for simulation often when it was an actual foul.
Tactical fouls on 14:13 - May 19 with 490 views | Scuzzer | Cajuste was perfectly placed for a convenient trip...but didn't. I don't think we got a yellow card yesterday did we?

If you watch the Brentford v Fulham highlights it further showcases the complete lack of consistency. I can't think of many times this season where I've seen a foul go against us and say 'our player was lucky not to get a card there'. However we've received such soft 1st or 2nd yellows that have led to red cards several times this season. The Wissa and Tete fouls shown in the Sky 3min highlights are absolute cast-iron yellow cards, yet the ref was over lenient as they had both been booked. Without making this a blubfest, where has that leniency been for us this season!? You just have to look at the reduction in yellow cards we've received as the season has gone on, to see evidence of the reluctance you mention. Morsy is so skilled at walking the tightrope of an early yellow card, but he knows that tightrope just isn't possible amid the professional cheating that goes on in the Prem. I agree 100% that our commitment to tackles and breaking up play has suffered as the season has gone on because the players are increasingly scared of two quick yellows or a VAR intervention leading to a red. It's been a factor in us looking a bit limp the last few months, IMO.
Tactical fouls on 14:36 - May 19 with 410 views | CopfordBlue | In isolation I agree with you. It was worth a yellow card to stop them building an attack that ended up in a goal within seconds of them being gifted the ball. The trouble is, we give the ball away several times a game and we look vulnerable every time. We’d end up with 8 players every game if we did it every time a team breaks. The real issue is how often and how cheaply we give the ball away. [Post edited 19 May 14:37]

We've got away with some and been burned with others, there is no consistency and this only feels to have got worse - certainly seems that players have been wary to challenge, especially in the area. I have no idea how we have racked up 91 yellows and 6 red cards this season, especially considering some of the physical batterings our players have received. EDIT: It does however put us top of the disciplinary points table, something still to play for this season . . . [Post edited 19 May 14:39]

Think your assessment is pretty spot on here. Cajuste should have dealt with the problem at hand but was too slow to react and that was probably the cause for Greaves getting sucked in. For all of Cajuste's good stuff, I'm still not sure he has the fitness levels required for top-level football. I'm really stuck in half a mind about our back line next year. Part of me thinks that they will be fine in the Champ and another that watches the goals we concede completely unconvinced. Someone else nailed it in another thread for me (The Stu Watson one) where it was said that the problem with three ball carriers in Enciso, Hutch and Clarke doesn't leave us with the link up play, ala Chappers or Broady. Makes it almost impossible for Hirst.

It does seem that the thresholds for a card change throughout the season. They are always mega strict early on but then that consistency is not maintained. Yesterday there were the two stonewall yellows for Thomas and then their keeper decided to go from a drink halfway through a goal kick which has been a yellow every other week this season.
Tactical fouls on 16:11 - May 19 with 237 views | LankHenners | Thought that was actually something Phillips was good at even if he still looked rusty otherwise - knew when to knock someone down and also how to let himself get bumped over to win a free kick himself. Certainly other teams are very good at spreading the fouls around to avoid picking up too many cautions, and are able to influence the ref to a degree to stop their combative midfield hard man getting a booking despite committing what is fairy obviously a yellow-worthy challenge.
