I know I've recently been musing on who we'd sell and when,
but we have to do that as we keep buying.
I'm (nearly) always to see players go.
We keep buying until we've built the squad up to the level required.
I was brought up on players turning out for us year after year.
We support the team, but also have an affinity with the players, so I feel we're missing something.
Is it just us, or is it something that football in general has lost?
Since 2000, the only players to get to 300 games for us are
Chambers, Naylor, Wright, Magilton, Holland and Wilnis.
Of our current lot, only Woolfenden is 2/3 of the way there.

They are gone, unless you can sustain yourself in the PL - even then if someone is too good they soon go. |  |

Those days are in the main, gone. Possibly due to the fact that clubs do not have as much power over players. Players now have greater freedom which depending on your viewpoint, can either be good or bad.
Some players do form a close bond with the clubs that they play for but most won’t allow sentiment get in the way of a better financial or playing opportunity for them. |  | | |

It just does not really exist anymore and its amplified when you are a bottom end PL/ top end Champ club.
The likes of Chambers for example would have never stayed had we been in this situation. Our long stint in the Champ was the sole reason for it. |  | | |

Regarding SM, his legendary status is mainly due to the fact that he was the heartbeat, soul and personality of a team that achieved back-to-back promotions. Far more worthy of that description than players who might well have played more matches but achieved far less. | | | |
