Coventry's discipline is absolutely woeful ... 11:34 - Jan 27 with 3241 viewsBellevue_Blue

Looks like both Thomas-Asante & Sakamoto will get retrospective three game bans for their indiscretions last night.

Bobby Thomas only just returned from a three game ban as well.

Where is the suggestion they will get retrospectives.

One of the elbows did look very deliberate and would
Deserve so.

Back in early December: "I'll call it now. They won't get automatic promotion and I would not be at all surprised is Lampard is out of job if they don't get promotion."

The situation at Coventry is interesting. Next door neighbour but one is a Sky Blue and, therefore, we talk football and we both spend a bit of time watching each others teams.

Whilst Coventry have gone off like a steam train. Recent performances have seen this ship a lot of goals, often conceding first but getting themselves back into matches. I've felt they were due a loss and we were due a performance - the two coincided at the weekend.

What's interesting speaking to my Sky Blue neighbour is that many Cov fans are critical of Lampard. Lampard has set them out as a really attacking team but many fans feel he leaves them wide open to a counter attack or open to any team with a half decent attacking group. A lot of talk about them being 'found out' of late - which does coincide with injury and availability issues but that speaks to a wider problem at Cov - squad depth and rotation (or lack thereof).

I'll call it now. They won't get automatic promotion and I would not be at all surprised is Lampard is out of job if they don't get promotion.

It all stems from the manager - I called out the way that their players always surround the refs, very similar to how Chelsea used to try and intimidate match officials.

I used to quite like Lampard as a player - but the more I hear how he talks after games, doesn't take responsibility and deflects onto the opposition, officials or anything else really winds me up.

Classless when compared to how McKenna talks.

Common sense I would have thought! This is the second one, top of the screen.

Both fairly obvious and the ref didn't acknowledge either incident which gives the FA power to retrospectively review.

I don't think anyone's getting retrospective action for that one. It looks like an arm wrapped around the neck/head, doesn't look like a strike of the arm/elbow to me.

The other one looks worse.

Maybe they are feeing the pressure…

Though I guess Furlong has walked that tightrope of competitiveness and discipline at times.

Call it what you want, its pretty hard to claim that was not a deliberate act of foul play. He reacted to a push in the back with a deliberate movement of the arm towards the head/ neck of the Cov player.

Reds have been given for far less than that. Very lucky if he gets away with it IMO.

Yeah, if seen it's probably a straight forward red card. I just feel there is a fairly high bar for retrospective action, rightly so. Otherwise it's just another VAR and we're re-refereeing constantly, where do you draw the line?

I think we all watch too much Premier League.

I think you draw the line at clearly missed 'straight forward red cards' as you put it.

Most of the time these situations are incidental contact, two players fighting for the ball and arm goes across the chest/ face like Furlong last week. You cant re-referee that because its impossible to prove malice.

With this its easy to prove that, he moved deliberately towards the opponent in order to make contact with him off the ball.

I don't completely disagree, I just think with that particular case there's enough doubt about the actual contact/malice. See Martinez on on the Arsenal player on Sunday (can't remember who). He makes contact with his hand and the back of the guy's head, but there's enough doubt not to go brandishing red cards.

Impossible to prove that was deliberate as it was in the action of competing for the ball.

This is vastly different.

He does like a good whine and sulk doesn’t he. I’d have thought he’d be a bit more emotionally resilient, as surely he needed to be when he was on the pitch.
